    Dumped by the big G

Was very pleased with myself for managing to get one of my domains - healthcarepackaging [.] com - onto the first page of a Google search recently. eCPM on Adsense was really good too. But, a search this morning revealed the domain to be nowhere in sight. Seems to have vanished from the SERPs.

Any thoughts on what might have happened?

Sorry to hear that, I've been there. I remember someone writing a blog about life beyond Google. There are plenty of possible reasons though, here are a few:

    1. Your site was off-line when Google was spiderring,
    2. Content is not unique,
    3. You have broken one of Google's rules, don't remember them off hand,
    4. New Google logorithmics,

Finally, based upon the site. Very little content, and linking pages.

Yes, I know, very little content .. but it was doing so well

I didn't think I was violating any rules. Have to go and check the webmaster guidelines again. I have a few other placeholder sites like this, and they rank well and don't cause too much fuss.

Is it possible for another site to lodge a complaint against your site? Healthcarepackaging[.]com is remarkably close to healthcare-packaging[.]com, which is a legit publication. I didn't even know they existed when I reg'd the name. Could they have flagged me somehow with the Google overlords?

It happens, don't worry about it. If you didn't do anything wrong, then you'll be back. Just keep developing, and working on things while you wait.

I had 12 pages indexed for a new site, next day none, day after that, 3. Google is a fickle beast..

OK, so now I feel foolish. I'm back on the first page again. All that fuss over nothing. Dumped and back again all in the space of a day.

so just to give you a little insight. I used to train people on SEO.

What you experienced is actually very normal. Moreso, it is a great sign that G is testing the validity of your site for a given KW. It is healthy for a domain to pop in and out of a KW, also Up and Down. This usually occurs within the first 3 months after indexing.

However the success of the bounce can be affected by link building velocity. Keeping a steady link build will increase the likeliness and timeframe that it takes to keep the good rank spot.

    Good Luck!

With Google, links are not as important as keyword and content-heck the alogrys are constantly in flux- I had an ecommerce, ad free website and had PR5 with a minimum number of links- probably could count them on two hands. I'd be spammed daily by webmasters wanting to link and ignored the lot of them. I'm wiser now... What kept the site high was buckets of money spent on keyword bidding. The minute that keyword spend stopped, I watched the site drop like a dead pigeon.
