Free Kindle downloads available today -

I posted links to a few free Kindle downloads recently, and it occurred to me that this might be the section to put some more in that beginners and newbies would find useful, though anyone might, imo. The date in the header is the date the downloads are available, so there's not much point in going to get them tomorrow. They might be on a two-day promotion, but they might not.

I can't vouch for the quality of the ebooks, but I'm of the firm belief that any newspaper, magazine or book will yield at least one gem of information that might turn out to be useful, and since you're not paying for it why not give it a go?

You know the way this works? The authors have joined Amazon's KDP Program, where they are allowed to offer their ebooks free for five days out of 90. An author does this as a promotion, and is hoping for two things: first, that a lot more people will download the book and so raise its profile on Amazon, and if they find it good pass on word to their friends about it; secondly, that any reader who really likes the book will go onto Amazon and do a review of it.

Speaking for myself, when I get a free download I don't review it unless I can give it a good review. Having got it for free I don't think it would be nice of me to go on and berate the author for his poor book. But most of the ones I've got for free have at least something to recommend them, and I've seen some selling the day after the promotion for anything between $9.99 and $67.00.

Sorry about that. I copied the link Amazon sent me when I downloaded, so I'm not sure what happened.

There are a few ways to get the info. You can just put 'free books on Kindle' into Amazon's search engine, or put it into Google and you will come up with some sites listing them. The way I do it is simply look for something I'm interested in - SEO, WordPress, whatever - and look at what comes up. I find that if I buy one or put it into my wish list, I will then be offered more like it. I just keep going forward till I see 0.00 and look to see if it's something that interests me. On the whole I only download for free what I would have bought anyway, and check it out first using the Look Inside facility. It does take time the way I do it, but I often come up with something I really want to read.

I'm not sure, although I don't see why not. I'm using a PC Kindle myself, and haven't yet got a dedicated Kindle, as the Fire hasn't reached our shores yet. I have never actually used a Kindle, either, so don't know how the download works. But I presume there will be no problem - it would be odd if it were only the PC Kindle could avail of the offers rather than the actual device itself.

Maybe when you find the answer, you could pop back and let us know here?

I just have the basic kindle... no bells and whistles... but it has wi-fi... so i clicked on the book links above... and with 1-click transferred the books directly to my kindle. Doesn't get much easier then that. I am assuming you could also search for the books in the kindle store on your actual kindle and still download them free. Thank you again.

I'm really looking forward to getting my own dedicated Kindle - I always carry a book around with me and this would obviously allow me to switch from one to another as the mood takes me. I also love my real books and have a large library of them, but I can see the value of both avenues of reading.
