Register Today on DNForum IT'S FREE!I think I've had half my posts deleted, merged, or locked in some way. Most of these posts were due to me not reading the rules correctly. Some of them though, I still can't figure out. Anyway, I think it would be helpful for newbies to know of my mistakes and others so that maybe just maybe(not likely) they will read this thread and not make those same mistakes.
List of Rules commonly broken by newbies.
1. NO spaces in the middle of a domain name in the thread of a sale forum. For example. "BigTrees.com is for sale" as a thread title is ok. "Big Trees.com is for sale" is not ok. My very first thread lock was due to this. I didn't read the rules.
2. Signatures should have max one link. I haven't broken this rule, but I know plenty that have.
3. When selling a domain in a forum section, do NOT post "will push to auction for $60 at sedo". This will get your post locked or moved or both(yes both). One example I did. I had a thread with a list of domains for sale. I had the BIN prices listed. After around 24 hours, I hadn't had any bites, so I edited the thread and put "will push to sedo for $60 bid" at the bottom. While my BIN prices were still completely valid and I was still accepting normal offers, the fact that I added I would push to SEDO caused the entire post to get moved to the external auctions section. Bottom Line, Don't even mention push to auction in ANY for sale thread unless you are specifically posting in that section.
4. Don't put down ANY domain sale. Whether its for sale here or not, keep your thoughts to yourself. If "CrazyGorillaButt.com" sells for $1500 on SEDO and you are confused as to why. Leave it be. Stay confused.
5. Don't list domain names for sale in different sections. For example. If you own Papa.com . Don't list it in the 4 character section as well as in the "Offers wanted" section. Pick one and stick with it.
6. Do not promote your external site that sells domains in any for sale section.
7. When posting in the domain for sale sections, be sure to ALWAYS include at least one domain name you are selling in the title. Instead of "selling health related .com domains", put "Selling Health Related .com Domains - BrokenArmsHurt.com , SwineFluVirginia.com" .
8. No trademark names in the for sale section. DisneyStorytime.com is trademarked. Don't try it.
9. BIN reductions need to be at least 10% . If you list a domain for sale for $100 and lower the BIN to $95, its going to get locked.
10. Do not make an appraisal thread for the same domain you have for sale. Make the appraisal first, then after a few days, post in the for sale sections.
11. Bumping. This is where things get foggy. I don't know what the rules are on this. The rules specifically state no bumping in the for sale section. However, I see the rules not really enforced and enforced too much at the same time. In one thread, I'll see someone blatantly posting "anyone?" or "bump" or "these domains are still for sale" after a few days of no activity. To me, these are all examples of bumping. Sometimes these threads get locked. Sometimes they don't.
On the other hand. I'll see a user post "i have a bid on suchandsuch.com" after around 24 hours, and the thread will get locked for bumping. But then I'll see another thread where a user posts "I received a bid on suchandsuch" or "I added suchandsuch.com to my list" or "suchandsuch.com sold" to bump their thread, and they won't get touched. Example http://www.dnforum.com/f283/virtualo...ad-365011.html . While http://www.dnforum.com/f283/bronxapa...ad-380285.html gets locked for bumping a thread a month and a half after he originally started. Maybe he was suppose to make a new thread? But then I see this http://www.dnforum.com/f283/budgetca...ad-386861.html and I'm even more confused. Its even the same guy. I'm hoping a moderator can clear this one up for me.
Thats all I can think of right now. Add any rules you know of that newbies commonly break.
at least, on the surface, it seems like you have a good attitude about it
you probably couldn't imagine some of the backlash i endured as a mod here, for performing some of the same actions which you described
so perhaps you just got tired and had to vent, while at the same time trying to enlighten others.
that's not a bad thing when balanced.
release your pain, let go of your frustrations, let your mind be at peace...be as one with your domains
as others newbies will come and they too will make the same mistakes
imo...

This is the most commonly broken rule but it's not just people using (to take your example) big trees.com but even no domain at all.
Platinum members can have one link, exclusive members can have 3. Its funny when you see someone posting for 6 months with the "only one link allowed" signature that entire time.2. Signatures should have max one link. I haven't broken this rule, but I know plenty that have.
This is why that subforum was posted - there was the demand and people kept doing it before we had it.3. When selling a domain in a forum section, do NOT post "will push to auction for $60 at sedo". This will get your post locked or moved or both(yes both). One example I did. I had a thread with a list of domains for sale. I had the BIN prices listed. Bottom Line, Don't even mention push to auction in ANY for sale thread unless you are specifically posting in that section.
Yeah, we don't like people spamming. Especially when it is in the fixed price, offers wanted, and auction. Which one is it??5. Don't list domain names for sale in different sections. For example. If you own Papa.com . Don't list it in the 4 character section as well as in the "Offers wanted" section. Pick one and stick with it.
Just re-read my response to#1.7. When posting in the domain for sale sections, be sure to ALWAYS include at least one domain name you are selling in the title. Instead of "selling health related .com domains", put "Selling Health Related .com Domains - BrokenArmsHurt.com , SwineFluVirginia.com" .
It's fun when we lock the thread so they cannot edit it and then the seller gets hit with a WIPO.8. No trademark names in the for sale section. DisneyStorytime.com is trademarked. Don't try it.
I've seen worse. Opening price - $15,000 next post - price reduction to $14,990. Wow. You know, that extra $10 really makes a difference.9. BIN reductions need to be at least 10% . If you list a domain for sale for $100 and lower the BIN to $95, its going to get locked.
Re: Spam10. Do not make an appraisal thread for the same domain you have for sale. Make the appraisal first, then after a few days, post in the for sale sections.
The concern about "PM bids" is that we have no way of knowing if it is legit or not - some people will just say "Oh, PM bid of $500". We have no way of proving that.11. I think you have the main violations - domain in title and bumping (note: the rules now state maximum 3 updates per sale).
Then I am not doing my job right - I need to work harder.![]()

As a new member, it's good to know these things. This forum is pretty vast, especially from the perspective of newbies to the domain world. So far I have quite a bit of experience with buying domains but none in selling them. Hopefully I'll be able to change that soon, without breaking any rules around here![]()
I have a question in regards to posts being locked for what seemed to be no reason. I know everyone says that they didn't break the rules, but I really didn't, and I'm still trying to get an answer about why my post was locked.
It was a straightforward question about GoDaddy, nothing offensive, no rules broken, yet not long after posting it was locked. I submitted a help desk ticket 4 days ago, but I still haven't been told why it was locked.
I would really like to ask the question again, but I don't want to have my post locked again (or worse).
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I could figure out what happened here?
For the mods reading this post, I'm referring to help desk ticket DNF-33396. It got marked as closed today, even though I'm still waiting for a response.
I can't even get that far. When I try to load the URL I get the error, "lsdomains, you do not have permission to access this page."
