Selling Domains - How Do You Take Payment?

Hello Everyone,

Time to launch my sales site, I have been thinking through the best way to "take payment" and am looking for some opinions and ideas.

How do you take payment?

I would probably run all my domains through sedo if it were not for the minimum fee of $50. Since many domains will be priced around $100 bucks or maybe even cheaper the minimum fee does not make that an option.
I guess I could park all my domains at sedo. However I like to test the waters with various parking partners.

I am leaning towards paypal, however I am worried about fraud or ease of use.

I am also thinking about Google's paymet system (forget the name right now).

Any tips, or ideas ??

Cheers,

If you park your names at sedo, the commission will be 10% no minimum fee(so if you sell at $100 the commission will be just $10)

If you accept paypal, make sure you get paid only by people that you trust. For any other transaction between you and a person you do not trust enough, use moniker escrow or escrow.com - there is no safer way to do business online, and the fee is not that much.

Hey Petros,

Yes, as mentioned in my post. If I were parking all my domains at sedo that would be a no brainer. I would just list all my domains at sedo ;-)

However I like beingable to move domains from parking providers if earnings are not up to par.

For now I think I will apply for sedo pro and see what happens.

Cheers,

You can list and sell all your domains at Sedo but Park them elsewhere.

The minimum fee to Sedo is $50 if you don't have them parked there, (only listed), but you can bypass that by parking it at Sedo after you get an offer on the domain.
If you change dns to sedos servers, the fee drops to 10% immediately...

That makes sense -

Park at sedo once an offer comes in -)

I think I am going down this road.

Thanks all that replied.

I made that comment considering that the PPC earnings are not that significant(since you will be selling at $100/piece)

Cheers,
I used Google's checkout service for the first time a couple of weeks ago and it worked.

I did have to send photo id and proof of address which "scared" me a bit as I have dual addresses in two countries, but I got through the hoops ok.

I also use Western Union for lowish payments ($60 to $400ish), making sure I get payment before transferring the domain. (Same applies to google checkout and paypal of course).

Hey Guys,

yes I am leaning toward Google Checkout (no fees until the end of 2008) and sedo.

Cheers,

Is this true even if the offer is received through Sedo?

Has been every time for me... but wouldn't surprise me if they remove that possibility in the future.

Another advantage of selling names at Sedo is that you can put the name up for auction after you receive an offer and sometimes get more for the name.

Gorlov, thanks for clearing up the difference between the 10% commission and the $50 min fees.

Due to security concerns of prior buyers, I have used escrow.com for several domain sales.

For $100 domains just make it quick. Take the paypal payments and hope for the best. Ask if the buyer is on these boards, maybe that will help.

I've never had a charge back on paypal and I used to sell on ebay all the time. They use a dispute system that makes it tough for chargebacks but I do think there is also wording in the TOS that they do not cover digital goods.
