What happens to PR when a domain drops?

Are most people dropping domains with PR to park them or to build a site?

It depends what happens to the domain after it drops. Google will keep trying to index the domain, but the pagerank will gradually drop over a period of time (unless new interesting content emerges, or the old content comes back).

it can retain its pr even on a parking page as long as the backlink to the domain stays. However its advisable to at least put a one page site with min content and nib outlink to maintain the PR. Hope that helps
