First of all, which site gives initial registration of .in for $1.70? I've been paying more!
Second, as far as advice on what to register ... I should admit that I haven't been domaining as long as some. But I see long lists of really awful domains that people have registered--much worse than my worst!--so I figure I can give a word of caution. If you're going to register .in, (1) try to go for single words or double words but not more; (2) only register words or word pairs that correspond to a product or a professional service that you would buy; (3) don't try to be clever or coin any brand names; (4) check that what you're buying is something that 10,000+ people every month are looking for online in India; (5) Ask yourself is it inevitable that someone else will try to register this domain name?; (6) Avoid particular brands or passing fads and go for something generic and permanent.
Hope this saves you money--and makes you some.
P.S. And I hope you don't buy anything that I later try to register! Oh well, too late ...
