Can you give us some idea of:
1) Pre-auction, what was done to inform potential buyers of the auction and the domains being offered - Was there an email campaign? (I never received anything). If so, how did you decide which industries/verticals to focus on? Finance, Adult, Auto, Travel.
2) Now that the conference is over, what, if any, serious marketing efforts are being carried out in support of getting bidders to the table?
It would seem prudent that domain owners who contributed their domains to Moniker's auction be kept abreast of the efforts being made on their behalf.
Thanks in advance

This is one of the reasons that having people identify domains they WISH to bid on at the live seems counter productive to me.
Voting a domain into the live, is drawing attention to it (showing your cards VERY early) when you could sit there quietly and just bid the rediculously low reserves in the SILENT.
That would explain, for me at least, why there are so many GREAT domains in the silent and why so many mediocre domains made it into the live. I mean let's face it.. the simple fact that the BIDDERS chose what domains to be in the Live Auction suggests that there was either an active interest in bidding on them OR they were looking to fill up the live in order to keep the better domains in the Silent and had no intention on bidding their votes in the first place.
Look at the sheer number of domains that were in the live that didn't get any votes or ANY interest. In the end, you had people calling out domains they wanted to see on the block and then NOT bidding. Calling their own domains maybe?
Anyway, I agree... people don't want to invite competition for the domains they want to purchase. Yet, the voting process for the Live seems to do just exactly that.
Just an observation, not an attack

Agreed, those are reserves. Look at porn.com for instance... deduct 15% from the price there and you get 7,500,000 even. That was the reserve they mentioned at the event.
So yeah, those are reserves plus moniker's 15%

I forgot the buyer pays the 15% commission.
OnSpec - Before and after the auction, Moniker has pursued a comprehensive promotional and media outreach strategy that includes multiple press releases, media alerts, phone calls to media, home page promotion, e-mail blasts and one-to-one outreach to potential buyers. We have specifically targeted certain vertical media covering these industries: Health & Medical, Jobs / Careers / Recruitment, Retail, Sports, Real Estate, Automotive, Wine & Spirits, Education, Travel. For these media, we highlighted specific domains of interest in that industry.
fearless - buyers pay for the sellers commission through purchase...so yes the reserves have our commissions included. Porn.com did not hit $7.5M at auction...it hit $7M...but we do have 3 deals in the works at the $7.6M - $8.2M and we are confident that one of those will close this week or early next which would be great for the industry!

Apparently you can see the list now but I'm not sure of the status.

BackAlley.com Backhole.com BlackAfricans.com BrownWomen.com Breathers.com & More!
If you have to explain what your domain name means, give up, it's a crappy name!
The LIST is available and you can see what names and what reserves they have. If there is a domain you like (and there are plenty) that you might bid on, the $499 you pay to access is applicable to your bidding (kinda like your first $499 is paid already).
So you can see the name, pick one to bid on, pay your $499 and that is your bid...
It's a WIN WIN!
What's to know beyond that?
