Re: New York Traffic Auction 2007

This should clear things up (from wikipedia) The term Yankee refers to someone of New England heritage. By extension its popular meaning has been expanded to include any resident of the Northeast (New England, Mid-Atlantic, and upper Great Lakes states), to any Northerner during and after the American Civil War, or to other citizens of the United States. In certain Commonwealth countries - notably UK, Australia and New Zealand - "Yank" refers to any American and is sometimes mistakenly applied to Canadians. Internationally, "Yank" is today roughly analogous to "Brit, Pom or Pommy" (someone from the UK), "Aussie" (someone from Australia) or "Kiwi" (someone from New Zealand). The word Desi is sometimes used by Indians for themselves.

    * Keep in mind the commission is 15%
    * If your domain does not make Live, it will be pushed to silent, same 15% commission applies.
    * If your thinking of only submitting your domains for Live, forget it, its live and silent or nothing, this was checked with Monte.

I thought it was deducted from the selling price. ie if the name is sold for 100k, the seller receives 85k.

No... the 15% is ADDED to your reserve price. So you never get less than you asked for. Hopefully, alot MORE.

    BUYER pays the fee.

I believe there's some confusion here.

At the auction itself, if someone bids $100,000, my understanding is that the seller receives $85K.

If the buyer submits a real reserve of $50K, though, Moniker would "gross up" that to instead show $58,824 as the visible reserve (i.e. $50,000/0.85). Then, if someone bid $58,824, the seller would receive $50K.

    Please confirm.

    That's correct.

I got the email to submit names, and it came with a new list of rules that I don't remember seeing last time:

DON'T submit .com domains containing more than four words.

DON'T submit .net, .org, .info or .biz domains containing more than
    three words.

DON'T submit .mobi or any country code domains containing more than two
    words.

    DON'T submit names with hyphens.

DO tell us if the key words in your domain represent any foreign
    languages

DO be sure to submit your domains only once. (If duplicates have
conflicting reserves, Moniker will select the lower reserve as the
    official entry)

DON'T submit any obvious trademark domains. (Example:
    MicrosoftSoftware.com would not be accepted)

DO make sure that each submission is spelled correctly and that you are
in fact the owner or in control of the domain.
I understand they don't want hyphens, but I wonder if they would make an exception for a name like DNP's New-York... They have to see the value in that, even with a hyphen, right?

Yes, this is correct. The 15% is added to the reserve price.

DO set your reserve as low possible. This is critical -- domains with
unrealistic reserves will not be selected.
As Moniker stated above, they clearly want low reserves and for good reason, encouraging more bidding is one of them. But for the domain owner, beware of the risks when you do this, When you submit your domains, you are submitting them for BOTH the Live and Silent auctions, since there are only 300 being considered for Live, the remaining are Silent, which in my opinion, is not the best place to have your domain with a low reserve on it. The LIVE auction is where the BIG money is and the Silent is not, one only has to look at the sales figures to draw that conclusion.

When you receive notice that X amount of your domains were accepted, don't assume that any of them will go to Live, there is still the Live list that is released about 1 week prior to the auction. One suggestion is price your domains with the expectation they will all go to Silent, and with minimal bidding, this way you wont be disappointed if this worst case scenario happens.

Moniker runs first class auctions all the way, I've been to one of them, and encourage anyone who wants to sell there domains to submit them, but do so with the full knowledge of what your getting into.

Strange that the deadline to submit names for this auction is BEFORE the CAC auction that Moniker is doing. Does that mean I can't submit the gambling names that get accepted into the CAC auction for consideration into the NY Traffic auction? If so, that's pretty weak.

Re: New York Traffic Auction 2007

Folks - you can contact sales@moniker.com for any questions regarding the auction. Info on our auctions can be found here: http://marketplacepro.moniker.com/auction/index.html

regarding deadlines in submissions, we are trying to get lists of names in and out to the potential buyers in advance so that everyone can research and express interest in what should be in the live auction.

submissions are considered as auction submissions and there will not be names submitted for only live auction consideration. If domains are submitted, they are considered for sale at our events...live and/or silent. The silent auctions will get more and more popular and average sales prices will still continue to be better than any other competitive venue so if you are interested in having names considered, the names selected are still considered the top names in the industry. Our last silent and live events were more successful than anticipated. This trend will continue over time. We are going to a very niche strategy as well as major events.

There will be auctions at TRAFFIC events through 2010 as well as InterNext, Casino Affiliate Convention, iDate, and now the Affiliate Summit. More will be announced soon.

Hopefully most of you see the benefit of these events to your individual portfolios and to the industry as a whole.
