NEED .JP ADVICE, please....

I found a great domain for sale with a .jp extension.

I understand that there are restrictions in place to register a .jp domain but also read somewhere that the .jp registry can seize this domain if I fail to meet the criteria for ownership.

Needless to say, if that is the case I do not want to purchase and have transfered a domain only to lose it.

Can anyone shed some light on this? Are transfers outside the confines of Japan or the reach of the .jp registry possible?

ありがとう

Re: NEED .JP ADVICE, please....

Doc - see below....FAQ's from jp-domains......hope this helps

Q8. Are there restrictions on hosting .JP domains?

A8. JP domains can be hosted anywhere in the world.

Q9. Can I register .co.jp domains?

A9. Yes, we can register .co.jp domains, however, these domains are highly restricted and you will require a Japanese Business License in Japan. If you have a Japanese business license, please contact support and we will be happy to assist you.

jp domains are domains which are unrestricted and both companies and individuals can register them. Although this domain still requires Japan presence, we will be happy to assist you with the domain registration.

Re: NEED .JP ADVICE, please....

SUP TONI TONE TONY!

Helps, but I guess I need to study on the transfer of them. I hate to take owner ship and lose it.

First thing is first...WAY TOO GOOD of a domain to be going for this price.

Verify, verify, and then verify.

Re: NEED .JP ADVICE, please....

Most idners use jp-domains.com. The only basic requirement as I have read things is that the "administrative contact" have a Japanese address, which JP-Domains supplies for you.

They have an easy to use English interface, and good support by email. Your best buy is the 2 for 1 domains (currently $15 each) if you want to register only 1 domain, enter the same name in "both" boxes, pay $30 and they will refund $15.

If you are buying a domain from another individual, they will assist with the transfer.
The best person to contact there is the manager of jp-domains Michael Yukai.

Some use value domain, a good bit cheaper, but the interface is all in Japanese and many struggle to set up accounts.

Plus, you still need a valid administrator in Japan with bonafide address.
Not sure they will stand up for you in that role as jp-domains will.

Thanks, I'll check them. This is not an IDN. It is a straight up Japanese word with .jp extension.

Sorry doesn't compute. If it is a Japanese word using Japanese characters, it's an IDN by definition. If it is not an IDN then it is just an ascii transliteration of a Japanese word, my guess is that it isn't as valuable as you probably think it is. Though it might be. I'll be happy to tell you what I think of it after you reg it.

Never once did I mention it being an IDN. It is a very popular japanese term and has strong english and universal language appeal. Like the word Sumo or Saki. The word itself has an US overture of 797,939 and Japanese overture of 14,166.

I have since found out the listing is very misleading, it has a high reserve (as well as it should) but no mention of this.

I appreciate the input but I have no idea where all these assumptions are coming from. I mentioned early on that it is not IDN.

eventhough need.jp is a common english word and there are a lot of hits, i dont know what price you are paying for it. you should ask for traffic stats and etc.......

Re: NEED .JP ADVICE, please....

Stats would be incredibly high but not worth pursuing now that I have been informed of the reserve. No mention of this in the posting. The domain is perhaps worth the reserve price but not to me.

Also, i was informing all that I need .jp advice, not the domain www.need.jp.

Whoa, this has been fun and educational.

At any rate, should I need the service to register a .jp, I appreciate the assistance and suggestions. Still somewhat unclear on the transfer limitations and risks.
