    parked and stumble :(

Someone stumbled one of my parked domains a couple of days a go.
I think they might have stumbled a previous entry as I got it on a expired auction.

Should I unpark the domain or is it OK to get some stumble traffic?

Isn't that drunk clicking? Or is that you stumble and click out on a few links?

It was a joke. If your parked pages gets a sudden burst of traffic our system analyses the source and determines if it is valid and from a good location. But stumpleupon.com is fine.

    Re: parked and stumble :(

Is it ok if someone stumbles upon my domain then DIGGS it with a FURL and then a SPURL thinking they may find something del.icio.us but instead they find an old comic and realise the they have REDDIT.

    Would that be ok?

If that's ok then I wonder why Donny frowns upon Craigslist. All these social bookmarking places are a joke, on DNF you will see ppl paying DNF$ for others to digg sites and articles etc.

I'm curious to know what makes these promotions acceptable. It's not different than referrer spam or blog spam.

    Re: parked and stumble :(

I guess it would depend on the fact if you were to actively go out your way and DIGG or Stumble all your parked domains with the intention to increase the traffic albeit artificially.

I think what donny said was acceptable was that the domain had prior stumble.

I was referring to my developed sites.

    Re: parked and stumble :(

If you have a domain, that is parked with us and then you submit it to craiglist for cheap furniture in Orlando that's really not allowed. But it also depends on the volume. If somebody gets one hit from craigslist, I'm not too worried about them.

Of course, double standards is the norm.

So I can have my buddies or a horde of DNF$ drones submit and pump a domain in digg but Craigslist would be bad eh?

And I am not talking hypothetically here, there was a case where you specifically chastised a user for promoting his domains in Craigslist.

Also one click would be fine but more would be bad.

The PPC industry needs to grow up. Or *we* will make it happen.

    Re: parked and stumble :(

Acroplex - Yes I remember the craigslist guy very well. He spammed about 200 cities on craigslist with his domains. Initially I didn't care until my buddy at craigslist called me and told me what was going on and they were going to start removing all domains that pointed to us that had existing links. Because of the complaint we terminated the account. About a day later, we re-activated the account after he agreed to no longer spam craigslist. One month later he was spamming craigslist again and his account was terminated this time permenantly.

For example on your signature, you have fall.net, if I saw that 99% of your traffic to fall.net was from your signature I might tell you something, but I wouldn't terminate you, because I have on many occasions told people signatures are fine to an extent. I personally don't have a problem with your signature at all, but if that's where all of your traffic was coming from then I would. I have seen many signatures generate hundreds of clicks a day and the domain gets no other traffic. In this case, this isn't good.

Digg is kind of like slashdot, It's not as easy to get on there as you think. But when you do you get a lot of traffic, usually by people who are in most cases smarter than your average surfer or craigslist user. It all depends on where the traffic is coming from, how much traffic, and how much traffic from outside of the initial stream of traffic. A few weeks ago we had a domain we owned ourselves that received 50x more traffic than it normally did one day. Since we know we didn't do anything we searched and found that somebody had decided to send a press release to all of the online new locations, first with their domain incorrectly spelled (we owned the misspelling), and then sending out a correction stating that they didn't own the misspelling to do to the correctly spelled one instead. This is a good case of something that is looked at on a case by case basis.

I applaud Donny for taking the time to closely analysis each accounts. It is much easier for companies to just cut affiliates. When dealing with the Internet, like life there are many shades of Grey - not just black & white.

    Re: parked and stumble :(

The difference is, "spamming" Craigslist is one thing - e.g. if he made hundreds of posts daily as you said - and actually making posts at Craigslist e.g. one per city is another. So the question is, where do you draw the line?

If I were active in 10 forums making 100 posts a day and traffic was generated by my sig text or sig image, why would I be penalized just because you didn't like the idea that people actually clicked on my sig?

The bottom line is, you do as you please. We want to set fair rules because our traffic is making you money first and then us. We will reverse the pie, rest assured.
