Channel Issues with PPC Tool

It seems that URL channels are no longer accurate in AdSense when you pull the info for the ads from other sites. It must use that info for the "url channel." I think that we'll need to create traditional channels to track these numbers.

Is anyone else seeing this?

Re: Channel Issues with PPC Tool

I know DCG is going to put this question to rest very soon, but I'm hoping for a definitive answer soon about using the 'google_page_url =' code on my site. I have taken his advice and used it only to point to pages on my OWN site, but in one block where I don't use it, Google is showing ads that relate to stuff that was posted nearly a week ago.

DCG must have the inside track on this because if you look at his site www braids com the code shows use of this Google directive freely to point to external sites to serve appropriate content.

Google need to do something. I am already looking for alternatives. Seems to me like they need a wake up call. They could at LEAST allow some type of keyword listing submission from the advertiser, like Clicksor.com do -- simply just relying on contextual page content sure isn't working for me.

If Google DO open up the legal use of this code, then combined with some good keyword research and some common sense by us as publishers, we could ALL make a packet with Google.

Just pissed off with Google at the moment. Looking forward to DCG's announcement.

Oh, and why are Google displaying public service ads HERE?

Re: Channel Issues with PPC Tool

Adam, Still wondering about the url referral line of code to outside sites which have good ads running? So many of us have plummeting Adsense earnings and low EPC's due to poor ad targeting and low paying keywords.

The referral line would better things significantly so the epc drops may be somewhere around 20% (or even better), which is a big improvement from the many reports I heard about of income and EPC drops of from 50% to 90%.

I have written to G repeatedly and they say absolutely no alterations to the javascript code are allowed so the url referral line strongly violates the TOS and is grounds for the acct being closed. Ther are very adamant on that.

Anything yet on on all this or alternatives. I recall you once saying you had something which was even better and you would announce it soon?

Subject: advertisements not displaying
Date: Sun, 06 Mar 2005 11:25:38 -0000

Hi Google,

I have had terrible problems with adsense not displaying in two of the
three blocks I have on my landing page. I think this is because I am using
vBulletin with a portal page, and adsense is unable to spider the portal
page content (actually the news forum).

I have applied the google_page_url = code to the two blocks that are not
displaying, and have pointed them to two places on my OWN site - the same
site, and that works just fine.

Is this OK to do? The adsense content is now relevant and I am not
pointing that code to anywhere outside of the site.

Can I do this or can you offer an alternative?

Thanks and regards,

Dale Hubbard

Re: Channel Issues with PPC Tool

Anything to report on all of this DCG? It's been a long time since there was news from you on the issue? Or regarding the alternative to the url referral code line (which some time ago you said was much better from what I recall).

Google is still telling us it is not permitted and is grounds to close our accts if we do so!

Thanks, can't wait until Sat.

Now I am sure glad I was conservative and never implemented the url referral code line. However, I believe others did based on past posts and your templates

Re: Channel Issues with PPC Tool

Hi AZooza, are you still running the url referral code? Also, when you had it up did it get much better targeted ads as I suspect it did?

While you had it online did G first find out about it or did you first ask them about it? Just wondering.

No, dropped it as per email above. Yes, it targeted beautifully when I pointed it to just other relevant parts of my own site.

Thinking about getting rid of Google and trying something else.

Cheers!
