How does one begin?

I am a newbie, a single mom with an entreprenurial spirit who is trying to merge art and commerce at long last. Okay the nuts and blots, I have 26 names, hope to sell some, host others. The template idea sounds good, how would that compare to parking on Sedo? The clickthough earnings are so minimal, they might pay for the cost to register. I was wondering with the PPc templates, how others host them once completed. I am thinking of getting a virtual server or low cost option to host 10 in one to begin. Any suggestions?

Many thanks

Re: How does one begin?

first of all welcome aboard. First try parking them at some parking program so that you have an idea of the traffic that ur names will get. if they get good traffic and provided that they are not typos/tm typos, u can buy DnF template and use it for the name. Usually most of the parking programs are like the middle man. ie. they take some part of the revenue that ur names earn but with Dnf template u get all the amount given to u by google/yahoo.
hope it helps
Cheers

Yes, !!!
Have a look at the names the "good domainers" have. What kind of business-related they own, and what YOU are looking for. Then, buy.

Re: How does one begin?

Hi sirengirl and welcome to DNForum, to go directly to your questions, using a PPC site has the advantage of being indexed better by the search engines because they have content , and hopfully bringing more traffic and revenue over time, although you do get the full revenue from the clicks other than splitting 50/50 with a parking company you have to weigh out the investment vs. potential earnings , with domains with very light existing traffic or zero traffic it would be hard to justify this type of investment per domain in my opinion. As far as hosting, you will have to purchase a reseller hosting package to host your 10 PPC sites, a reseller account simply allows you to host more than one domain, a low cost option would be somewhere like resellerzoom.com budget reseller package.

Re: How does one begin?

welcome to the DNForum. First I would suggest that you park your names in anyone of the parking services available to get an idea whether you own gems or not.
good luck,

Welcome to Cyberspace. Being a domainer and web developer offers many ways to make money and probably even more ways to lose it. You probably already know it's not easy money. But many people do make money and it can be a very exciting business as well.

Keep doing research and listen to what the veterans have to say. All of the suggestions you received here are good advice. If you want to develop multiple domains, becoming a hosting reseller could be an option for you. I have a reseller account with Hostgator and have been pretty happy with them. You can sell the bandwith you don't use or just learn about how web hosting works and host your own domains. Sedo is a good place to park if your trying to sell your domains. I like Traffic Z best for parking. Very customizable landing pages and great stats. The templates they have here look nice and I think I may be trying them soon too. Whatever you decide, best of luck to you.

Re: How does one begin?

If you know, or will learn SEO, over time, hosting the sites is best.

Most domainers rely on existing traffic, I belive the key is to start with existing traffic then build on it. If you have creativity you say, and something like dreamweaver, you can do this yourself. If not, they do a good job, it just gets costly. There are many ways to monetize, the KEY is targeted traffic.

Re: How does one begin?

There are a few options for hosting:

Shared, VPS, Dedicate

Shared is the cheapest, and probably the best option for you to start with. I was using a shared server up until recently, then graduated to a Virtual Private Server. If you don't need one, then your probably just wasting your money.

Hi SirenGirl, I consider myself a 'newbie' too, that is to this forum...but not to buying and selling domain names. I've been doing that since the 90's. Here's what I've learned about hosting and ppc posting. In the first place you must have either a yahoo or google approved active website before you buy a ppc template. If you are well versed in computers and know how to build websites you don't need to buy a template. If not you may have some problems to overcome. Problem one is how the heck do you get this new ppc template onto your website. The advise about trying your names on ppc first is good. You want to know which of your names are best in this program....and which are no good at all. After you have identified the best ones (assuming you have some good ones) you must then decide if you want to develop to websites or just leave them in the ppc program. Believe me its a lot easier to leave them in the program. But you could make 2x, 3x, or maybe more if they are worth developing. The best way to make money in this game now-a-days IMHO is to always be on the lookout for good names you can pick up cheap and hold onto for a few years. The ppc program is a big help in paying those yearly reg. fees. Of course selling a name every now and then for big profits always helps too. Good luck to you.

Re: How does one begin?

SirenGirl,

You can also start with free hosting and some content with adsense here and there. For some of my domains I use pipni.cz (this is not my site and I am not affiliated with them except I host with them) This will save you a buck or two untill you develop your site
