4AY.com: $175 for an End User?

I have 4AY.com and was really just holding on to it for a little bit more. Then I get an email from someone who wants to buy it. It's not parked and there are no for sale pages up, so I am pretty sure he is an end user and he wants the domain. He made an offer of $400 and then changed his mind within minutes because of eBay prices. His best offer would now be $175. I told him if he wanted a cheap domain, he should probably just get on off of eBay.

A month later I get another email from him saying he was on holiday, but is still interested, and that I shoud make an offer. What should I offer to sell it for? I know it's not worth a lot because of the number but, he contacted me. The last time someone did that, I got $500 for the domain and it was fairly stupid. Think I should make a counter offer of $500, since his original one was $400, or do you think that going that high would screw the whole thing since he dropped his best offer to less than half?

If he originally offered 400 and then went down to 175 I wouldnt make the counter offer higher than the 400. I would say make it either 375 or 400.

I have to respectfully disagree. If you let his second offer dictate the price, then he has outnegotiated you.

He has contacted you 2-3 times depending how you look at it, so he must be serious.
Tell him he can buy it now for $600 or make a lower offer to you with an explanation of what the domain will be used for. If he is truly an end user, he will tell you the use of the domain and "sell" you back down to the $400 range. If he wants it real bad, he will buy for $600 without telling you the use.

I agree with Duck, but might as well make it $1000 instead of $600 for the same reason...doubt that that bid will scare him away if he really wants the name

The problem is that I dont think its really a $400 name. If he really wants the name badly you might be able to get more than $400 from him, but if you make your offer too high and scare him off you might only be able to sell it for $100 to someone else. I think the safest thing to do is price it around $375 only because to most people the name would not be worth that much.

Re: 4AY.com: $175 for an End User?

His first offer was $400 meaning he was expecting to pay much more.
Then he went down comparing to ebay.
    That doesn't mean much.

If buyer can use other names from ebay, buyer wouldn't bother email you again.

Buyer need your domain. Buyer have some name in mind thats like A???? Y????
Sort of like "For Asset Yield".
But, I am just thinking out loud.

If above scenario works, then, you have perfect domain for the buyer

I would counter offer with $950 or some odd $.
Expect to settle with 5-700 if I have that buyer.

But, you have to decide ultimately

The '4' in front of a LL.com is very solid. I wouldn't consider selling it for less than $1000. And that would be cheap. All IMHO.

Re: 4AY.com: $175 for an End User?

eBay? Well their sales almost always seem below market to me. Here's some other recent comparable sales that might help justify your price:

Domain TLD SalePrice SaleDate SaleThru Source
    T4Z com $103 Feb 06 eBay
    2Cw com $160 Mar 06 Afternic
    L2V com $195 Feb 06 Afternic
    2IV com $300 May 06 Afternic
    2V9 com $420 May 06 Afternic
    8W8 com $499 Mar 06 Afternic
    A66 com $700 Sep 05 Afternic
    MO1 com $860 Dec 05 Afternic
    2k6 com $999 Apr 06 Afternic
    34u com $1,200 Apr 06 Afternic
    F2F com $3,000 May 06 Afternic
    17K com $3,000 Apr 06 sedo
    4TV com $3,200 Feb 06 Enoms

Not my area but, I would think somewhere be $420 and $999 would be right based on these.

    Cheers,
    BidNo

Re: 4AY.com: $175 for an End User?

I tried what Duckinla suggested and asked for $650. I also showed him the list that BidNo posted. I agree with what Nrmillions said, the domain really isn't a $400 domain. I got it for $65. He emailed me back saying he is a bad negotiator and told me his budget in the first email. He cannot go 1 dollar higher and needs a domain within the next 2 or 3 days.

I think I am going to take the $400 offer. The domains that went on AfterNic for a lot more have more of a meaning that 4AY. Plus, I kind of need the money.

    Thanks for the help.
