Appraisal: freeto1.com and 33-1.com

I'm new so desperately need a better understanding of the real value of domain names before I buy any more!

I have these new, undeveloped sites reg'd with GoDaddy:

freeto1.com
33-1.com net org biz and info

Thanks for any clues or advice. I wish I'd known about DNForums earlier!

They aren't very clear, I admit, but reasonably catchy imo.

freeto1 sounds like 321 and could be a lottery site maybe (Perhaps a countdown to a big prize being free to one person? )

33-1 means odds of 33 to 1, therefore OK for a gambling site?

I have seen that you posted many of those domains for appraisal recently that you just regged, I honestly haven't seen any of value sorry, I am not trying to be mean here, but I saw you just joined dnforum as well, so I wanna give some advice for a better strategy.. it might be better to invest in few domains that you buy in expired domain auctions or that are being offered when you see somehting you really like, rather than spending $xxx on hundreds of domains for which the chance of big money is very low..

I couldnt agree more. I'm also relatively new to domaining like dirt, and I think the biggest challenge a newbie faces is resisting the urge to rack in domain names that are essentially worthless. For future domain purchases, research a little beforehand; look at the OVT tool and how many results google generates, etc. Think to yourself, would I ever in my right mind type in 33-1.com if I had no idea it existed? Try buying some nice sounding names instead. At least if you buy something nice sounding but relatively unknown, you'll have a good chance to develop it and make some money. But most of the domains you've been posting have been reg fee at best.

In other words, dont be so trigger happy! And also, think about the extensions you are ordering, and dont buy out every extension just because its available.

I'll bear in mind what you say, but I challenge one thing: isn't 33-1 possibly better than quitelongnicename.com? If there's a nicer sounding option I agree it is better to take it, but some unpronouncable short names can make lots of money (but probably not 33-1 ;-)

They dont all have to be quitelongnicename.com. For instance, I have some names that sound funny, but mean absolutely nothing at the moment. They're about 6 letters long, and are very easy to pronounce and spell. It will be easy to develop them as well since they are very brandable. So you should try to concentrate on getting quality .com names that you may or may not develop, instead of 33-1.com, which is a dud.

Unpronouncable short can make a lot of money, but youre talking about domains like stq.com which are very short, unpronouncable really, but nevertheless, valuble.

Well, the upside is that youre hopefully over your trigger happy days and now you can go on to much more valuble domains. I would recommend trying to sell most of these for a little over their reg fee on a auction like afternic.com. Perhaps someone will take the bait, and then you can be free of the domain and still make some money back.

try to be creative, maybe find some good sounding, short names that dont mean anything, but sound like they could, essentially creating a brand name before the brand, some examples for those kind of domains are violis.com siella.com or wallert.com, they dont mean anything, but they look like they could, they even get traffic.. just made them up,
also..stick with .com unless the other tld makes sense.. another strategy is to register domains in an area of business that you know very well, for example if you worked many years in the fitness/health field you might come up with good names in that field before someone else does especially with new things that emerge in that area, just to give you examples again, fitnessusa.org (here the org makes sense) vipworkout.com taebofitness.com vitalcheckup.com, they are not great names, but they are ok names, they do get some ok traffic, I just regged them, some of them were expired domains, and I have gotten offers for all of them.. if you register a name ask yourself if you would pay some money even as a reseller to own that name before you register it,

reg fee. you really need to do a lot of quality research before you rush into reg'ing domains. Spare your money-hurry hurry has not blessing. Just take your time before you decide to reg a name.
