best TLDs, can you guys help?

    Hi,

I have been reading a lot of advice on domain names and the consensus seems to be that the top is .com followed by .net and then some of the others.

Some of the older articles I've found place .org as sort of a distant third to .com and .net, but I'm wondering if this is still true in light of domains such as .biz that might make more sense to a business than .org.

Can you please share your opinions on this matter. Are .orgs still worth the reg fee or are they old hat? I don't have any and was thinking of branching out, but wasn't sure if they are going to still be viable in this market.

as always, thanks for the expertise
    cheers!

You will find many opinions on this, and hence people are betting in different things. Some people think .info is better than .net. I don't.

    My opinion:

    1) .COM
    2) .NET
    3) .ORG

To answer yoru question if .org was even worth the reg fee - It depends on the name. You certainly have to be more picky with .org, but I have see an increased interest in them.

If you have short one-word ..orgs, you can get $300 - $1000 for them (at least I have been - the most I sold a .org for was $2000). I would take a good .org ANY DAY!

Dot com is king for anyone who wants to do business or be seen before competitors.

Dot net is probably second best if two well sounding words or less.

Behind that I'd place .info then .biz if really good ones AND related to the extension. Sports & hobbies can make very good .info sites (I own Dive.biz and Rafting.info and have turned down mid 3 figure offers).

.org only makes sense for resale if you get a really good name that fits. The real problem with them is that most people who would use .orgs don't have money to pay high prices and will settle for other names at reg cost.

.us is somewhere in the middle, but should be resticted to US sites, therefore both limits the market. It's great for those who WANT to limit their site info to either the US market. I'd take a good short single word .us over a 3 word dot com. (I've been offered low 4 figures for Video.us).

Dot net is almost standard for Hosting sites - but little else. The do however have the "advantage" of getting about 1/3 to 1/0 the type-ins dot coms get.

In short - stick to dot coms, dot nets only when you can't help yourself
