or reviews books to me thus the suggestion to blog her reviews. Of course this
morphed into many ideas or subjects she wants to write about. Anyway .....
The name I selected is:
ButThats.me
(butthatsme.com)
I'm not so much interested in a dollar value but more of a marketing effect. Does
this name fit well for the intended use? Does it "click"? Should I use the .com? or
the .me (I like .me)?
Thank You in advance

Very difficult to market or brand and very difficult to see how that fits to your daughter's likes.
I understand that this is a common phrase in summing up an opinion or personal like or dislike, but it's still hard to pull off without an explanation.
The best thing for your daughter (with your intent on using a .me) is to use the family name, as in Lastname.me. The cool thing about this (and it is pretty cool) then she has a very unique and personalized email address. Then it is Daughter@Lastname.me.
Personally, that is the biggest advantage to using a dot me...personalization.
Thank You ... shes not fond of the .com version.
Unfortunatly our "lastname.me" is taken. I have her firstlastname.com but this is a phrase she uses often.
Almost as her quaint little sarcastic moniker ... "But That's me" steadfast in her perpetual politeness mode
she uses it as a "disclaimer" to disagree or to opine.
I agree ... that "it is cool", or in my case "would be cool".
However ... I very much appreciate the sentiments (opinions) and advice. Thank you.
Can't find the "rep" option .... but I will.

While you are pondering the best way forward with your brand & domain selection it may help your daughter to get started with a "Wordpress" site that can be set up very quickly and at minimal expense.
That will give her the ability to zig zag a bit with the brand she wants to develope and test the waters with the concept before getting into larger costs for domain acquisition and development.
Keep in mind.....As you define your box and become more serious about developing a web presence and brand the .COM extension is and always will be the the one that shows that you are a real player in the web arena that you want to play in......Don't get to stuck on a name to match every part of your brand.....if you are very creative, you can develope a brand within another name. All the best.........
If she does use this domain, be sure she capitalizes it as ButThats.me whenever she promotes it ... otherwise, people will think it says ButtHats.me!

ACRO.......A real class act here........How does that help this man and his question..........
Thank you Oxcell and Randomo. I appreciate (serious) the input.
At this point I want "her" to cut her teeth and be excited about the blog.
She takes things serious, unlike some people, and strives to be her best.
@ ARCO,
I'm speaking about my teen daughter. Please show some respects. Your
verbiage is childish and insulting and I'm not even sure you had a point.
Perhaps your just "OFF TOPIC" and vulgar. Best know that I would never
disrespect your loved ones in such a manner. Nor would I conduct myself
in a way as to poorly represent a forum I frequent. A long time member
such as yourself might consider themselves as an ambassador or at last
a representative and carry myself with a bit more class. At least in the
context of my daughter .... be adult enough to keep your distance.

namenut: You're kidding, right? First off, I hope you don't let your daughter read this forum - your account is strictly personal. Second, what part of my humor don't you understand? You posted a HORRIBLE domain choice which Randomo caught as I would have done. The domain reads like ButtHatts - the examples I posted are also epic fail domains. Instead of acting all pissy and talk about me, go find a better domain name for your daughter, e.g. her first name + blog. Best of luck.
Quite simply posting how things read, to some people.
Yes, ThePenIsMightier if it is read, promoted, and capitalized as such.
Something that you have consider is how many people would view your daughter as the 'butt' end of a joke.
ButThatsJust.me reads and sounds and appears as it should.
It's natural to want to protect your daughters dignity. And I do agree that looking elsewhere and at alternatives.
For instance, a memorable LLLL with her initials (imgl.com), as in I'mGL.com (my initials).
I'
@ Doc Com .... I do hold "ThatsJust.me". I just dropped "ButThatsJust.me". I have hundreds of names, obviously, and tried to float some others past her. I will be sure to let her know of the possible issues with the construction of the name.
I agree about the placement and importance of capitalization. The thread title was changed to all lower case but if you note in the first post I've done as you suggest.
LOL .... you think pretty highly of yourself ....
No I'm not kidding and I'll let my daughter read what I choose. What she reads is none of your concern. I understand your humor I just don't appreciate it. If you see dirty little words in there I'm not surprised. If you feel the name is bad please say so. Then maybe include why. I would much rather have constructive criticism, like other members have offered, because I can wrap my head around something constructive. And oh... hey maybe even learn from it. For example your post void any opinion just words meant to appear vulgar and oh ... hey .... so they did. So I'll ask you again .... How does that help me? Like I said I would never act that way toward you in regard to your child, parents, loved ones etc .... I don't think I warrant it either.
I explained the phrase is a phrase my daughter uses. This is a name she wants to use. I can't stop people from acting childish and morphing words into little nasty giggles. I am just surprised to get "that" kind of conduct here and from you. So please accept my apologies for not appreciating your post. No need to get all upset that I don't appreciate a half-witted reply to my question. Also .... please don't think you are here to tell me what to go do. After all I'm not suggesting you go find some better manners.
I'll explain to my daughter that people (some people) will make fun of her name. I'm sure she will dismiss it with little concern.

I think that is very good domain name you have and that is the one which you can use for your personal needs. I would not recommend you selling that domain name.
Not trying to be rude, but when I read the thread title I honestly thought the domain was ButtHats.me, i.e. "ass hats". I would follow the advice of some of the other long time members/domainers and pick a new domain. I could see the domain quickly becoming a source of ridicule towards the author, in this case your daughter. And I speak from personal experience on name based confusion as my last name is "Cox" (for example if I have children I couldn't name my son Harry or my daughter Sharon).
I would also be willing to bet that if you conducted a poll 85 out of 100 people will see "Butt Hats" over "But Thats".

I don't think you can tell me how I will respond to your posts. Save your higher than thou attitude for your own family. Instead of being a little b*tch about it and disrespect those that tell you what a crappy choice that domain is, show some effing humility and save us the unnecessary little tirade. This is a domainer forum, not the school office where "bad words" are censored and medication is dispensed.
@ Acro.....I have been viewing this thread with amusement and finally realized that you would be the perfect poster boy for the site we are currently developing......."IHaveNoClass.com".
Please try and contribute to the forum with the respect and spirit that others on here maintain.
Best of luck to you...........
Whatever blows your skirt up there bubba.....and thanks for the offer.......I could use the PR..Good or Bad
It's already there. Unless you want one about asshat domainers, I mean - butt hats.
No question that it's a "good effort" as a domain hack, but I read it as "butt hats" too. Were it not for that unfortunate element, this would be a great name for a kind of opinions-based site... Good luck![]()
