Nothing. You really need to stop registering drops until you get a little more knowledgeable about values. If you want to PM me some names before you reg them, maybe I can save you some cash. You'd be better of subscribing to some expired domains newsletters like freshavails.com or picking up some names here in the forum in the 20-50 dollar range. What are you using to evaluate your names? What is your criteria?

Most of the names I am buying I plan on building a website and trying to get some traffic before I sell them. I do check them through estibot, but I realize that does not always mean anything. My thinking is to buy hand regs and put up a min-site before listing them. If I buy domains on the forum in the 20-50 dollar range would I be able to turn a profit without building a site?

Estibot is not a bad tool for checking some of the metrics like this one that you should be loking at:

Average Monthly Search Stats - [chilean red wines]
    Average Monthly Searches: 57
Average Cost Per Click: $0.81 USD
    Average Ad Competition: low

As far as the Estibot valuation, start by dividing by 10 and that is probably still best case end user value

What kind of sites are you putting up? Do you know how to drive traffic, or just think a developed site will automatically pull in traffic? How are you monetizing the sites?
Even if the value is in the site, the site still needs to be able to create revenue for the potential buyer. Do you know anything about chillean or fruity red wines that will allow you to intelligently create content for the sites? Is it a hobby or interest of yours? Are there products or affiliate programs you can use to earn money?

I could be wrong, but it just seems like you are pulling names out of a hat because they came up over $250 in Estibot - that's not a good criteria. Why not set some rules for yourself to make sure that the name has value before you even build the site?

    1. No more than 2 words
    2. Only .com
    3. At least 250 exact match searches in Google Adwords Keyword tool
    4. Something you know about
    5. Estibot value of over $500
    6. Average cost per click over $1.00
    7. Advertiser competition medium or better
    8. Name is a word or phrase in proper spoken order (i.e. pooltables not tablespool)
    9. If spoken aloud, a person could easily understand and navigate to the site (i.e. not koolpewls4u.com )
    10. Name is/was registered in lesser extensions.

If you create a list like the one above, you may not be able to find a lot of names that fit, but the ones you reg will have a much higher percentage of success. Besides, developing sites takes much more time than regging names does.

excellent criteria list 2gajgops. I pretty much go by that list as well. It is a good way to keep yourself on the right path and not deviate off track by throwing away money on bad domain names. I'd put high emphasis on the domain name being a .com, 2 words or less, at least 250 exact match & at least $1.00 CPC. If you stick to those, the rest of the criteria will pretty much be met also. That domain name will be harder to find (especially if you are hand registering them) but patience & consistency is the key.

jpetta, you are lucky that someone gave you a list to go by and follow. Most of us had to learn the hard way and throw away a lot of money registering bad domain names before we figured out some rules.

Great criteria 2gajgops. Should be a sticky! Especially agree with points 1, 2, 3, 4 and 8. When I started I was registering crap like budgetweddingvenues.com and bigwinspoker.com.

Don't get caught in the hype. Selling freshly registered domains for big money is almost unheard of. Buy as if you're going to develop it yourself. If you can't get *yourself* interested in the domain, how do you expect to get others interested?

The rules do change if you have $xxxxx budget of course

I like redwines from Chile, thus I think the domain is not too bad. Might need development, which is not my thing, but the domain itself is okay.
