Hang onto it....do not sell right now AT ALL...if you lose, you lost a few dollars....if you win, you win pretty nicely. Just wait and see what happens in the next few years. Some domains are WELL worth keeping in your pocket and that is surely one. Course, if you get offered over $2000 by one of her fans, go ahead and scoop it up!

If it were mine I would contact her office and see if THEY want to buy it. If not then sell it to some anti-CR radicals! If she says she will sue for it, let her and rake in the publicity...buy one of MY domain name selling URLS (or any other) and any time you do a press conference over the lawsuit just mention your site as often as possible and wait on your new supporters to buy your wares left and right!

Individual names in these extentions just aren't valuable. She isn't even that famous. It is also not an easy name to spell. Value is very small. Check out the UDRP cases and you won't find too many individual name disputes in extentions other than dotcom. The reason is that no one really cares.

I know this from experience, but if you want to go down this road then you will be able to buy lots of names in this and other 3rd rate extentions. You will have quite a list in no time....then you will have to renew.

I cannot think of one person's name in the whole world that would automatically be worth $1,000 in the .us extension, so why go there?

It doesn't even matter...no one cares about these names if they aren't in dotcom. I think I gave away a former President's name in an alternate extention. It looked good when I registered it.

The simple truth is that there aren't enough buyers, and Condoleeza Rice could care less. If she had the dotcom she wouldn't care, and if she didn't have the dotcom then she definitely would want that one instead of this.

I'm not making this up. Do what you want but if you can find anyone on the planet that has made decent money selling individual names in the .us extention then I'll buy you a house. And the name of the game is to make money.

Well understood! So what made you think to scoop that one up? Did you think of it and reg or buy it from a list?

I heard rumors of her running for president, so I scooped up the last available extension.

I'm not doing this in bad faith, and if any issues came up, I'd gladly give up the domain, I dont want or need a lawsuit or the SS knocking at my door.

I guess I'll hang on to it for the time being.

Just because YOU can't think of it doesn't mean it's not easily possible. To a passionate anti-CR radical who would LOVE to spead some of THEIR thoughts on her in as prominant way as possible, sure...I could see em spending that for the opportunity. Not that I think it would be a wise investment on THEIR part, but people are KNOWN to spend a ton of money on some crazy things. He holds the domain....a very specific and "rare" domain...it is now his task to maximize his investment. I give him advice toward THAT goal. I personally would not have even thought to check it, but if it WERE mine, I would make the most of it and that's what I'm here to help him do...that's why I spend my time thinking about HIS best use of HIS holdings, because I would love nothing more than to see HIM get a nice return for his vision.

I see a lot of discouragement and lowball advice around these joints...sometimes it's warrented and sometimes it serves no necessary function. I dont claim to KNOW what he can DEFINITELY get for it, but I do know that when you apply vision and effort you can often get some very nice returns. It's up to HIM how much time and effort he's willing to put behind that domain, but if he knows in his gut that he can sell it to someone, somewhere (there ARE non-domainers out there who buy these things) and he can clearly see in his minds eye a pathway to make the attempt, then he can surely get more than a reg fee. I would sign up at a political forum and put it in my sig or something and have For Sale on the page itself. Spend a few minutes posting and see if there are any nibbles! That will particulary hold true if she becomes a presidential candidate, so consider that advice for the future (and you should surely take that seed and expand your vision further...there are TONS of ways to market your wares!).

Thanks a lot for the advice. I have nearly a year until renewal time, so I'll see how events pan out, and maybe I'll try to find an end user for the domain.

I hand-regged 50YearMortgage.com last summer for $8 and sold it a few months ago for over 5K (multiple offers as well), so I am capable of seeing a little bit into the future. I also bought a few alternate extention individual names and I have learned that I would rather buy names of value than names with no value.

I am the first to appraise great names at higher value than most. For instance, most every big name sale on DN Journal like Blue.com, On.com, and others are great bargains to the buyers.

99 Percent of names are worth zero. I still have a small number of them myself, but I am a quick learner and I don't dabble in names that are a waste of time and money. Most people don't have the time to let someone know that their names are worth zero, and you run the risk of alienating people as well.

Most people who give appraisals have little experience with similar names, and I am pretty sure that most, if not all of the people in this thread have never owned an individual name in .us.

Definitely buy as many individual names in .us as you can. You don't have to keep me posted....I know the result.
