You believe the hyphen is the problem ?
What's the relevance of Costa Rica in the ccTLD of Colombia ?
It's not even a neighboring country.

I didn't think i'd ever be saying this, but "Katherine" is
100% bang on with that appraisal
Visually, the domain "looks" ok, but for the term "costa
rica" to have full resonance with the TLD, the TLD needs
to be '.cr'... at least in my opinion.
To ascertain the value of this Costa Rican gem, I will need
to consult my dear old friend, Reginald Fee.
hello thanks for your opinions, but I have sold 2 geo.co cities far more irrelevant to Colombia for mid £x,xxx.
The non hyphenated version is reserved "Costarica.co". If I go with your argument then
these domains should be pointless too.. Liverpool.co italy.co Namibia.co etc.. google allows geo targeting domains using their webmaster tools and I am sure Colombia and Costa-Rica are on the same american continent? anyway I know who to target my only concern was whether to go for the hyphenated domain I plan to keep this long term.. Katherine are you saying all geo domains have to be relevant to the suffix? i.e Namibia.de sold for $35,000 ..so am i missing something here? or are you just referring to Costa-RIca
IMO geodomains are only worthy in established gTLDs, and also the matching ccTLD, for example france.fr - but names like that are very high-risk. Sooner or later the authorities will take it away from you.
A name like deutschland.fr could be worth something because it's a large neighboring country, major trading partner with lots of cross-border tourism etc. But not a fortune.
I think Namibia.de was a fluke, you can't use it a baseline for more regular sales like this one.
That is even considering the strength of .de. But you cannot compare .co with .de of course.
At least there is a historical connection between Germany and Namibia, albeit a remote and old one.
Anyway, I think some keywords fit nicely with .co but not all of them. The vast majority of .co domains are worthless.
It's more about luck and marketing skills than hindsight imo.

I don't think it credible or likely that a name like Namibia.de
actually sold for $35K, regardless of what may have been
reported...
The truth is, some non-hyphenated geo '.co' names could
resell for a decent price, but there is no real market for them
and I personally think that buyers of these particular domains
are making a mistake.
The 'mistake' shows its face when a viewer looks at the domain,
then at the TLD, and sees an obvious discrepancy between two
very different placenames.
I don't think this problem will just be confined to domainers,
who view the name, either. Most internet user's will know
this I think, and when they see it I don't believe they will
accept it warmly.
The only exception to this is using '.co' for what it is meant
to be used for, promoting company names.
In that scenario there is more of a synergy, i.e. business
name + .co. It is credible and makes sense. Geo + .co,
doesn't make much sense, unless it is a very high traffic
placename.
Costa-rica.co earns a further demerit because it is clear
that it's trying to get synergy with the suffix, and visually
it kind of achieves that, but in reality it is a bad domain.
And, of course, we've already mentioned the hyphen.
Good luck,

Holland.co 2011-05-20 $9000 sedo. Undeveloped can I use this as a baseline? I agree with what you are saying the .co is not as established as .de. But I personally don't think you can go wrong with Geo domains and also going by your example being neighbours alone doesn't carry weight. I am sure america.co.uk is worth more than holland.co.uk or france.co.uk anyway I guess I can talk now just have to wait and see.

Brian I sold two Geo's.co and also I know of two other domainers who have sold hyphenated geos for 1000 euro each on sedo. I wasn't sure if the hyphen suited this Geo but in actual fact I guess a domain name like wookeewong.co can be worth more than blackjack.co if it has more quality traffic.I Personally think time will tell..I will develop and get back to this thread.
Thanks
Thanks for your comments maybe I am wrong maybe you are, maybe i will get lucky ..) all the recent sales indicate some interest in Geo but time will indeed tell
Thank you all
auckland.CO $9,100
denver.co $50,001
Colorado.co $7,900
Well, to start with do you really think a domain like Denver.co (largest city in Colorado) or Colorado.co (CO is state abbreviation) are really relevant comp sales?
The only hyphenated GEO .CO I can think of that sold is Las-Vegas.co, which sold for $1K. It does not make much sense in .CO, and neither does Costa-Rica.
Not to mention the keyword itself "Costa Rica" is not even in the same league as "Las Vegas".
I think you would be lucky to get low $XXX for this as a reseller.
Holding domains like this for $20-$30 a year eat into capital.
Brad
