Depends very much on the context.
agree with azooza. Impossible to answer with relating to something.
stockbroker is probably more valuable than stock brokers IMO,
so above it is 'stock' and 'brokers'.
stocks by itself is probably more valuable than stock by itself though.
etc...

If you had the chance to get one of the three groups, would you rather take the singular or the plural in each case (to develop or to speculate with them). Thanks.
