GI Joe .TV (and two more)

GI Joe .TV - is it worth $41?
GI Jane .US (also .org) - Any good? And which is better?

    Thanks.

GI Joe is a trademarked name so I wouldn't take that in any extension. GI Jane doesn't doesn't anything for me (though Demi Moore does - bald head or not)!

Perhaps someone named Joe would be prepared to take that hot potato. (The name, not Demi...)

Yes. I know where the term came from. Hasbro was smart enough to trademark the term for their wildly popular action figure and the trademark was granted for the actual words - not just a specific toy - so they have a very solid lock on it, just like Mattel has on Barbie. (Mattel even sued a Swedish group - Aqua - just for using the name Barbie in the title of one of their songs!!)

Well, so should all the newspaper publishers be sued as well, since in their editions they often use term GI Joe when reffering to american soldiers? And so on, and so on.. I think, if site has nothing do to with the action figure itself, and if I set up american soldier website, I should be ok. And if they want it from me, then theyll have to pay for it. Afterall "GI Joe .TV" describes the GI Joe cartoon at its best, i think.. Dont you agree?

Im not saying Im going to reg it, just thinking out loud.

You need to gain a much better understanding of trademarks before you start registering names like this. Why would a newspaper be sued for using a term to decribe something. They can call you a Barbie or a Chevy or a Xerox machine if they want to (though I can't imagine why they would want to). They wouldn't be using the term for their own commercial gain so that argument is senseless.

Why do you think that if they want it from you they will have to pay for it? Have you ever heard of UDRP? The name is given to the trademark holder - they do not pay the squatter anything for it. Unlike many trademarks theirs is not limited to a specific product - action figures. The trademark was granted for the actual words. That's whay there are no other products of any kind out there called a GI Joe. It is a good idea to read what the trademarks cover before you even think of regging a name like this.

no offence...but the news (tv) newspapers, ect have not use the term gi joe for like 30 years+. The only thing...here in the states anyhow.....that we really ever hear teh term GI Joe. Is for the action figures or the cartoon series.

Now...you probably would have no problem starting up a site on old army vets...

But I would venture to say that if you were to use the site to sell things ( toys , childrens products, video games or clothing for that matter ) or put it on the market for sale you would be hearing from Hasbro in a minute...they will probably send ya a C & D anyhow. ( They are very protective of their brands/marks )

I work with licensed art in my day job and we sign many a contract and are held to strict adherance to license conformity....Barbie ( Mattel ) is brutal when it comes to protecting that license.

    Anyhow...

Exactly my point! And why would they give me hard time, when I would use that term to describe same thing? I dont give a **** about that lame gi joe toy. So if i use the website for some kind of army men portal, or whatever except that toy, i dont see any reason how my integrity could be compromised..
