Have I got the price wrong on this fixed price list

I valued a number of my no-so-good names at $25 each retail. Is this about right, or have I got it wrong for some of them. The list is at

    http://www.namedump.com/namedump.html

This is my first serious list - so any comment would be gratefully appreciated.

I'm thinking "namedump" isn't a very positive name to draw in the buyers!

Too late BigFart, I just bought DimeDomains.com. So who wants namedump.com!

I also own correctnames.com and wondered if I should use that, or maybe have a complete change and use lowhum.com or tuum.com (latin for yours) or maybe even twinkley.com.

    I don't have a problem with bangaway - it'd make a good tgp site.

I know dime is only a few cents, but it also seems to mean inexpensive like dime shops or penny stocks. It's also alliterative and I found it fairly quickly.

The whole domain name business is interesting. I've seen people pay $20-$40 for names that I wouldn't pay the reg fee on, and some others have sold for less than I would have thought. I think it's a very personal thing, I've registered names that people have insisted on buying when I thought they were rubbish and unusable. A name like bangaway.com is not very valuable, but I can probably make over $100 from it by giving it away to someone that earns me an introductory commission. To do this though , you have to have a range of cheap names for them to choose from.

They already have that at any registrar. For $8 or so they can reg names of at least equal quality to these with millions to choose from.

Traffic Monster - you're too late with your post, it's already been decided to switch names.

D of E - a lot of users don't even know what a registrar is - they think it's an isp.

BF - that's one market, but there is another market for secondary sites, the ones you use to increase link pop. or to provide a service to pick up clients for your main site. There is another market for names that are used on sites for certain functions where the name doesn't really matter as long as it's industry relevant. Gallery submission sites on free hosts for example.

You must be kidding. If someone is too stupid to know what a registrar is and how to register a domain name, how could they possible be savvy enough to find a domain name resale site like yours? ALL of the registrars have far greater ad budgets than you have and are undoubtedly much better known and easier to find.

They find my site by me telling them. That's the way it works on the internet - it's calle linking.

re: your other comment, should we all give up then and leave large companies to do everything. The internet is the first real marketplace where a guy can start an international business with just a telephone and a computer. You only have to look at the large companies that have been failing and the new emergent sites to see that anyone who is prepared to work can profit from a good idea.

Don't forget that domain names are unique as well. If you want WeLet.com for example, there is only one person in the world that can sell it to you and that is me. You may not want it, but somebody will.

There is certainly no harm in trying. I think people just want you to be aware of the realities of the marketplace. I wish you good luck.

I understand the realities of the market place. I've owned a computer shop, a software house, a property development company, an antiques business and run an auction amongst other things. I've also lost 2 fortunes so I am probably more aware than most of you.

I've also had a lot of fun and am aware of the advantages of being different. Remember, great minds don't think alike, great minds think for themselves.

No problem DP. I think we all want the best for each other - that's why people are so free with their advice here. It oftens comes off as criticism but I think the intent of most is to keep others from making mistakes they did.

Everyone else can tell you what they think you should do, but in the end you are the one putting the capital at risk so you have to follow your own instincts for sure.

It's an interesting business. I've got a few spare names, but most of the ones I sell are newly registered ones I've found during a meeting with a client. Certainly having a stock of names gives credibility for this. I think I need to turn over a few names though, anyway umpteenth.com has just resolved so I can start using that tomorrow.
