My mistake. I forgot you were Swedish. That is well-known slang in America. Learning about the birds & the bees means learning about sex. It is a euphemism parents used so they didn't have to discuss it in more graphic terms!

I've never understood why they chose birds and bees. Wouldn't rabbits have been better.

Actually in Sweden we say "blommor och bin" - translated: "flowers and bees".
That actually makes more sense (as the birds certainly don't mate with the bees!)
