same as .net
more valuable than .net
How much is .info worth in comparison to .net. .Net has been around much more than .info as much more widely used. Nearly everyone know that .net exists while only a small fraction have ever heard of .info.
No one for same as .net? Surprising
other polls have shown bi-modal valuation of .info -- with folks in one of two camps -- optimistic or pessimistic -- and often little inbetweenOriginally posted by Anion

it's really depend. some people look at the long term (future value) of dot info compare to dot net, some look at the present value.
also depend on the name itself e.g. HIV.info sounds better than HIV.net, but database.net is better than database.info, for example.
dot info is for an information site, like breastcancer.info kind of like .org. i don't see any commercial value in it. I'd say it is slightly more commercial than .org though. I don't see its future value rising much, since there will only be more and more extensions which will make the originals stand out all that much more. I would say that that .info can be branded, and it is superior to .cc .ws and .nu etc.

It depends on what it's preceeded with. If the site will be network related, .net is definintely better. If it's informational based, .info could be the better name.
.net does have the advantage of longer acceptance though, and given the abover doesn't apply, I'd take a .net anyday before the .info.
even if it's not network related, the average surfer identifies .net
with "interNET", not "NETwork" even though network is the intended meaning. i would take any .net over any .info, but .info is a hundred times better than .biz

Only register .com, for world-wide recognition. I bet your Aunt, or your Cousin doesn't even know what a .info or .net is. For this reason, only register .com, its what everybody knows. (like 1-800 compared to 1-877, everyone ends up dialing the 1800 first!!)

.net over .info on any name...no question about it

.
I take prasits and kidkools point: In the case of informational sites, especially health-/medical- related (where surely a lot of money is involved...) .info should be an advantage.
I also saw some international companies going for .info, but maybe this is seen different within the United States, where .com/.net/.org surely dominates the mind, while in Europe it is a good possibility to overcome all these different country TLDs.
I believe .info is by far the best of the new extensions, and it gave some newer content and theme based sites a possibility to get a dictionary name. They will put a higher value on these names in exchange.
In addition, "info" has a sensful meaning or is at least immediately understood in most languages. The main point on a domain is, how easy can people remember it? Is the domain name coming in mind or close if we search for something?
Not to forget, mainy type-ins a lot of domains receive in these days are not result of people thinking: Lets try the .com - they mostly write a search term into the navigation bar of their browser. I saw this mainy times, as for a lot of non-webmastering people (the mass, and our customers) the different between a search engine and this similar looking "field" doesn't seem to be clear. The common browsers check then if there is a website available, at the moment first .com, then .net and .org. This is something technical which can change very fast, and as relevancy is a must for todays search services, I think it will.
For these reasons, I believe .info will have a good value in long terms, and in some cases it might be able to compete with .com soon, while .net seems to be falling in the past years (back in the late Nineties a lot of famous sites had a .net, and later on many of them startet to change the main URL's into a .com). On auctions the first .infos get an interest, yes, the prices are often not very exciting, but this is not unusual, as there is often a good alternative still available, and no quick type-in traffic to expect.
But nobody offered $$$$$$ on a .com in the early days. So domain speculators will have to wait until the market gets tight, webmasters can relax knowing they picked a descriptive domain one can base some serious development on. Because this is an important point too: How is the name looking in adverts?
.net has been around for several years and gotten nowhere. Unfortunately, it apears that .info may suffer the same fate and up in the junk bin next to .tv :(
.NET!! ".Info" is going the way of the .JUNK, like .TV and .CC - Good Luck![]()
