It doesn't have much going for it in keyword strength, but it is certainly brandable and something you could create some unique ideas around (or it may fit perfectly with someone who has such a plan). This is one to keep in the vault and wait for an offer. I would be aiming for mid X,XXX but might ask for as much as XX,XXX depending on the interested party.

develop it in the direct marketing direction, a one page lander site or sell it to someone who's in affiliate marketing. Yeah, $xxxx should be attainable.

Thank you so much INFORG and elius, I really appreciate your input.

I asked because I had an offer of $1900 and absolutely no idea whether that was a fair price (the dollar being very low at the moment, that works out to only Eur 1200 or GBP 1100).

I take it, from what you're both telling me, that this is on the low end but roughly in the right ballpark, would you agree?

Again, thank you, and I would appreciate anyone else's opinion too.

It is certainly a reasonable offer and always comes back to whatever you personally value the name at, and how much you need/want a sale. If it were mine, I would want at least twice that offer *which they may do if 1900 was a first offer. Using the exchange rate as a negotiation tool is also a good way to move the number up.

Unfortunately, I'm beginning to realize that I kind of screwed myself on this one - their initial offer was Eur 500 and my immediate reflex thought was that there was no way I would accept less than 1200.

So, rather stupidly, and without thinking to get opinions here first, I emailed back saying 1200, which they immediately accepted and initiated an escrow.

I haven't yet accepted the escrow, so, technically, I can simply cancel the sale but, obviously, as it was I who foolishly set the price, there's not really anywhere else, price-wise, that I can take this particular customer.

So, it comes down to a hard choice between just letting it go ahead or withdrawing and putting it back into storage until an entirely different buyer comes along.

I really have to sit down and get my portfolio and prices organized

Well, it's still a decent price and in these cases I tend to think that money in your pocket is better than a virtual sale that may or may not happen. In any case, you already agreed to the price so backing out of the deal would not just be morally wrong in my opinion but also a bad business decision. People will think (and with reason) you can't be trusted to go through with a deal.
I say the decision isn't hard at all, follow up on the deal and take a valuable lesson out of it. Don't counteroffer in haste when you have time to deliberate.

Yes, you're entirely right, I was just pissed off with myself but it isn't such a bad deal and, yes, a valuable lesson and a timely one as I prepare to sell quite a few domains over the coming year. And, no, I wouldn't have backed out having already made a deal, the domain business is already tricky enough without becoming tricky myself.

Thank you for your wise counsel.

Just a quick update to say that the sale went through without any hiccups.

Thanks to all of you for your advice.

For most of us, an eBay, Apple, Google or other big company will come along very rarely for a domain we own. It's too bad you didn't negotiate a little more, but it's a good learning experience.
