    Just wondering...

    Hey,

Hope you all had a merry christmas...

i was wondering how much a four letter . net domain would go for considering that it is a dictionary word and quite common?

Also, how much do dictionary words of any length usually go fo?

    Thanks, Mark

Obviously completely impossible to say without knowing what word you are talking about. Yugos and Ferarris are both cars but they don't have the same value. Sex and ebullient are both dictionary words but they don't have the same value when used as domain names.

    Aha! You noticed them too!

Dropped today. I snagged one - just because I have a purpose in mind for it.

Doing a bit of research, a previous owner was asking a flat $300 for it as well as for various other 'dictionary' words - but for a .net - even if it's a short .net which is a recognisable dictionary word, that sounds *way* over the odds to me.

I'll stick my neck out and say $50 if there's someone out there who would want to use it. Any more than that, and they would probably go for a longer and less memorable (but cheaper) .com.

There. That's my first post where I've put a figure down. Am I getting this right, or am I way off track?

How would anyone know whether you are on track or off since you did not state the name?

I'm not a big fan of riddles.

I'm assuming it's one of about a half dozen 4-letter .nets that dropped today. Not particularly impressive 'dictionary' words.
(things like sank.net IIRC - good one for failed dotcoms?)

    But I *really* liked odes.net - it's the poet in me ;->

    But to a non-poet, it's probably worthless...

An English teacher I know usually uses .tk redirects to his kids' poetry projects. Something like this would be easier to work with for that type of site.

A couple of other thoughts after a bit more 'research' - the majority of 'dictionary' word .nets of varying lengths and usability that dropped today all seem to have come from one speculator/team who has decided that they are not worth re-registering.

That may give you an idea of their perceived worth. But some of them got snapped up pretty quickly - even though they come with no traffic or links in search engines.

The only exception I could find was sops.net - so, just to see what happens, I've registered it.
