Congratulations Don. Holding assets through the hard times is the wise way in order to sell now that the markets are improving.
CH.org is currently being sold at about the same price ($21k)

Looks like the new owners are http://www.thorpeunderwoodestate.co.uk

Thorpe Underwood Estate is located just 10 miles from the historic city of York and expands over 100 acres of beautifully maintained grounds. Thorpe Underwood Estate is also home to Queen Ethelburga’s College.
    Mystery solved http://www.queenethelburgas.edu

I have a sick feeling the domain was undersold.

yes, these end-users can mask their identity very well. I always knew QE would sell to someone connected with the word Queen eventually.

I once sold a domain to a division of the United Nations for a much lower price than was possible because at time of sale negotiiations was led to believe it was a private party buying it to make a foreclosure site. This is the site today: http://UPF.org with the F letter meaning Foreclosure I was told at the time. What a bunch of BS.

These enduser sales really bring home the impact of how insignificant the sale prices are to the firms involved.

For example, there are 3 semesters per year at that UK school with each semester costing as much as about 10,000 British Pounds per international student which is about $49,000 a year! Look at the high fees here: http://www.queenethelburgas.edu/fees

So the chump change to them of 20k they paid for QE.org is like petty cash to the college which can be easily covered by one student and one time only. Thay will also get ongoing business from the great domain (which is so much better than the name they use now) basdically forever into the future. An amazing bargain for them and not so amazing for Don who should beneft more based on the value to the end-user (myself too with my United Nations name mentioned before).

Dave, it's funny but we were both right (I said, Quality Education)

    From Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_E...rga%27s_School
The Daily Telegraph reported that Queen Ethelburga's College charged the highest school fees in the country, at £32,985 per year for foreign sixth form students.
The bottom line: you can't worry about "what if's" once a sale is made; you move on and onto more sales.

it's easy to sit back and say, that a domain undersold, after knowledge of who bought it.
when prior to that, the selling price exceeded most of the posted appraisal values.

what would be great, was if you guys could have found these end-users for me or for anyone prior to.... then tell us how much to sell for.

if i told you that i turned down an offer for that amount, and you never knew who made the offer.... would you say i was a fool?

but i agree, what if...we could go back in time

for now, we can't, so we move on

    no regrets from me though

    imo....

Don, actually I was right on the money for the following reasons:

    1. Referenced "education" as the keyword
    2. Pointed to an end-user as the potential buyer
    3. Referred to 360.org @ $25k - a LL .org would typically sell for more than a NNN .org

.ORG domains are often undervalued by domainers. I am not saying your sale was not a good one; it's just that it had potential for a higher amount to be paid, based on the financial position of the buyer.

I think the "q" in the domain made the sale a good one for Don. Realistically how many end users for a "q" .org that would pay more than 20k? and how long would you wait for them to show up?

20k can get a nice .com in todays market or a nice used car

It wasnt under sold at all, it was an end user price. I owned qe.com, this school spending that much was a shock. Bottom line, enduser price obtained, congrats, otherwise reseller its $XXXX.

The .org goes just as well maybe even better than the .com in that category, imo.

P.S. Not saying Don sold it too cheap but instead Acro (I think) and myself are saying the buyer got it far far too cheap compared to its great enduser value to them and their revenue. They school could have paid 20k a year for a lifetime and still had a good deal wat with the 49k per year some students pay.

Congrats Don! Typical end user sale! That's the right/best way to go.

I have a Q initialed LL.com. Received 5+ end user offers in $100k - $138k range, one offer from my Moniker broker.
Most of those parties use 'Quality' or 'Quick' in their business name but I never met 'Queen' so far

we could debate the sale of this domain and many others, over and over, but,

    here's a nugget to consider...

just because one has the "means" to pay more, doesn't mean they will.

in this case, the buyers already were using an .edu extension, which obviously was serving their purposes.

for them pay this this amount, regardless to what they charge per student enrollment...is irrelevant to what their budget/max is or was to buy qe.

    good luck with that domain!

innovations in technology/medicine will elevate the letter "q"

    imo...

BTW: mods can move this to "general discussion" or lounge area.
