I just found out today (8/21) that I successfully registered Politics.us back in April! All of my emails from registrars about my "preregistrations" were all "we're sorry to inform you we were not able to register ____ for you..." and I actually never read the email about my successful registration... until today! Freaky stuff eh? I'm a bit blown away - I'm a writer type, and this could be a great opportunity to hook up with other interesting folks to do a great project, but I'm also in need of cash... would love to here folks' appraisals and ideas... Personally I can't think of a better .us domain name than politics, that's why I preregistered it on a lark assuming I'd never actually get it, but using that lottery ticket mentality ya know? Anyway I've been having a lot of bad luck the past few weeks so this comes as real welcome news...

Great domain!! A real gem!! The only bad thing is that you won't even get half as much now, like you would if you waited another 1-2 years. But if you are in a desperate need for the money, then feel free to sell it now. You should have no problem selling it. The question is just for how much it would sell.

very nice ... you can profit alot more from development, than a quick sale. think of when the elections roll around ... polls, chats, races, etc. build it now, set up your affiliates, perfect it and then promote it aggressively come the next big election.

Politics.com may be interested in it. However the revenue model for these types of domains are problematic, hence they may decline to make a bid for it.

Other suggestions might be the Republican National Committee. They are deep pocketed and have every reason in the world to get their hands on it. You could say the same for the Democratic Committee too, but I'd rather have such a name go to the Republicans

If you do approach the political parties the best way to do it is "throw it on the ground" and let them fight for it. In a certified letter (scratch the email method--cheapens the value of your property), you could simply state that "Politics.us" is available since your "intended" plans to legitimately develop the name fell through...

this enthusiasm is fantastic, thanks folks. great forum! any idea what figure I should be going for? i've sold domains in the past, and am pretty much of the opinion that a domain has no value until it gets an offer, but I just don't know what to think about this, never having had one this high profile before.

A very good domain name. I have a few good ones too, but in info and .biz (an extension I never liked).

I have some .us names, and they are getting some typeins.

They are:

Tablature.us
Amplifiers.us
Ass.us

Personally, I think .us will be the grand daddy of all the cc's.

Your name is more of a great vanity name. But that's not a bad thing at all. If I were you, I would hold a little while and then sell.

Don't get greedy. There are not too many "political" affiliate programs you could work with so the name suffers in that respect
However, it has monster vanity appeal.

Sell it to the republicans (lol).

Yup Kill Em All. First rent it to the republicans or something, let them develop the site for you, then ask for a higher rent next year or it goes to the democrats (with ESTABLISHED traffic) lol

But freakin really smash then to total pieces- complete defragmentation. I dont mean that in a bad way.

It will be difficult so invest in a good lawyer.
