Good domain and tough question. I think both of your questions are pretty much one and the same. If I knew what something is going to be worth in 20 years I could tell you what it's worth now...

I think today you might find a buyer for $x,xxx and in 10 years it'll definately be in the $xx,xxx range - assuming nothing extremehappens to the domain market.

Is the registration date on these correct? If so, how did you manage to learn about these in 98?

In any case, I would agree with korzon for the most part. Maybe a 5 figure domain soon, but I don't think this method of transport will be used by the masses for quite a while.. An excellent domain nonetheless.

I actually originally registered scramjet in 96 after reading the cover of a popular science mag. I changed the Registrant name in 98 from my name to scramjet.com.

It was not untill 2004 when the technology was proven to work by Nasa that the domain actually became worth anything, up to that point it was only theoretical possible and a real gamble of an investment in the domain.

    Yes it is.

I too read about scramjets from Popsci, but only read about them in early 2005, when they had already displayed the successful 9 second test flight. If they can pull off NY to Tokyo in 2 hours, then this tech sector will boom. Still has some ways to go, but I love the name and the technology!

I think scramjets will first be used by the military for tank penatrating kenitic rounds that actually speed up as they fly to their targets. I think the next step will be the development of a larger missile type scramjet to hit targets at longer range. which will eventually help in the developement of space access vehicles. If all of this happends first and the goverment still sees the need for big military spending, I can see a long range scramjet strike fighter (see the movie stelth) in the distant future. As for their cover story of a flight from nyc to london in 2 hr maybe for a military pilot but not for commericial flights. You would wait longer to go through customs than it would take to cross the ocean, also the sonic booms that plaged the (now decommisioned) concord, limiting it's flights over land would also be a problem for commercial scramjet flights.
