what implied value did you see in the name when you registered it?
If you are new to domains and looking to buy, sell and learn about domains then you have come to the right place. DNForum is the largest domain name community on the internet and continues to grow every day. There are over 105,000 domainers on DNForum doing everything from buying domains, selling domains, learning about domains and discussing domains. Take a minute and Register.
Register Today on DNForum IT'S FREE!I've just received an offer for sema.ca. The initial offer is $300US. I need some help understanding the value of the domain.
This month so far, I have had 7 hits. Last month I had about 30. I've only actually had about 3 clicks so it isn't earning much money.
I know there seems to be an automotive show called SEMA as well as automotive parts manufacturers.
All SEMA TLD's seem to be registered as well as several ccTLD's.
Any help from experianced domainers would be appreciated. I'm fairly new to this.
Thanks,
MaxGen...

what implied value did you see in the name when you registered it?
It was a close match to another .ca domain that has environmental connections. This was just an impulse buy.
I suspect $300 is a good offer, I may however respond with $2,000 to see where that get's me.
I guess at this point it comes down to negotiating. Unless I have missed something that more experianced domainers would have looked for.
I did just identify 2 canadian companies using sema. There are also articles about SEMASAN mioving into Canada.
Thanks

I have no idea on value without doing some research on what SEMA is, but you could post this in the .ca section of the forum to get more response.

Try for more, however 4 character .ca's aren't really worth much of anything "unless" they represent a direct use to an end user.
If they would only take 300$, i'd take it and pocket 290$ (minus reg fee)
All I have is .CA!!!
I have a feeling it's an end user. I didn't mention but the domain is at sedo. The buyers account was just created this month.
There is a company in Quebec called Sema Inc. This buyer is communicating in French. Perhaps it's them?
One thing I am verry unhappy with is the sedo fee. For a $300 sale, they want $100. Thats 33%!!!
It's about time I took all my domains out of Sedo. I can't understand that fee... I'll have to read through Sedo's TOS.

It all depends from whom this offer came from. Review the buyer and respond accordingly. PM me if you need any advice.
Here is the information on 3 companies I found in Quebec using SEMA. There are other companies in different provinces using sema too. My wife is from Quebec and from the simple comment the buyer left with his offer, she suspects he could be from Quebec.

SEMA.org is the biggest SEMA I know.
Low $xx

MaxGen,
Maybe you might think about who is watching this thread. I never, never discuss
a negotiation tactic on this forum with the domain name in the title, or text.
Also, if you check the CIPO trademark database, you will get some very interesting data.

low xx to reseller so I suspect its an enduser. Ask for a bit more because the initial offer is lower than they would pay.

Well, I'm not exactly sure what happened. I'm pretty happy though. Thanks to all who offered advice.
After the initial offer from the buyer of $300, I countered for $,5,000. The buyer just accepted it!
Maybe my counter offer comment/email helped? I'll post it in case any other new domainers such as myself would get some benefit from a counter offer message example. My wife translated this message into French for me. I'll post the English version:
------------------
Hello,
Thank you for your offer. I wanted to send you a comment to justify my counter offer.
Sema is currently registered in all “Top Level Domains”, such as .com, .net, .org, .info, .mobi... Currently, many “Country Code TLD’s are unavailable as well. Such as .us, .co.uk, .tv, and of course .ca... Sema is a popular domain.
I have identified 7 businesses in Canada using the characters SEMA, 4 active and 3 dissolved. 3 of the active companies are in Quebec. There is also a company in Waterloo called SEMACODE.
One recent news article described the activity of the “SEMA Action Network” moving into Canada. SEMA stands for “Speciality Equipment Manufacturers Association”. They can be found at sema.org, but with their move into Canada, they may be looking for a local domain.
If you choose not to accept my counter offer and instead present another offer, please be aware that I may choose to send the domain to auction. If you accept my counter offer, the deal will be complete.
Thank you again for your interest.
Kind Regards
