The hyphen hurts and the .org killed it.
Nice search numbers though.

Good Luck!
lol duke, as far as i know OVT does not search hyphens, you results are for southcaralina.org, not your domain.

Let's say the .com of any US state is worth $100,000 in today's market (that's probably a good average figure - some will be worth MUCH more e.g. California.com)
Then let's knock off 80% for it being a .org
Then let's knock off 75% of the remainder for the hyphen
That leaves $5,000. Sounds about right.
JapaneseDomains.com - cheap .jp registrations, English language interface, no local presence required. Alphabetic & IDN names supported. Bulk pricing available.
Good State Name Duke - The hyphen does not scare me away and would pop good with it in place - .Orgs for State Domains are huge - Try to find a state doman name in an .org - Pretty tough to find - Good Luck - Steve

OT DOES search hyphenated domains. OT sees the hyphen as a space. Which is why the OT results look like this when you input south-carolina.org:
Searches done in March 2003
Count Search Term
49 carolina.org south (carolina.org then a space before the word south because OT usually puts the words in alphabetical order)
SouthCarolina.org has a completely different output:
Searches done in March 2003
Count Search Term
162 southcarolina.org
As you can see, the results are totally different for the two searches.
Before you LOL next time, you might want to make sure YOU are the not the butt of the joke![]()

I appreciate the appraisals NameCaster, but you're still vastly underestimating the .org market.Originally posted by NameCaster

I'm not picking on you (in fact in a recent thread I noted that you were one of the better appraisers on the board - just not on this particular extension). Geographical locations are one of the best matches for .org. I'm no hyphen fan either (I have almost none), but state names are so rare, the domain still retains a lot of value. In fact it already has a three figure offer in the sales thread I put up today for this domain and South-Dakota.org.

I'll be the first to admit that I under-estimate the value of .orgs a lot. IMO state/city/geographic names in the .us tld will be worth more than the .org before to long.
I'm not sure what it is about the .org tld with me?
I guess I picture organizations/charoties/clubs/etc. as being cheapskates and unwilling to fork out a lot of bucks for a domain
Good Luck with your sale!
Cheers!
Thanks NC. You might be right about .US overtaking .ORG on those location domains within the U.S. - it's certainly a natural fit. I deal a lot with celebrity's charity organizations at ATY.COM and a lot of them operate on much bigger budgets than people would imagine. However, most of my .ORG sales are to for profit companies in specific industries that love .orgs for the altruistic image it gives them (especially the medical field). I have sold some to pure non-profits but not nearly as many.
