It's the nature of the business. There are very few tlds that don't have all the 3 letter combinations taken.
Obviously many of these will be in the drops 2 years from now.
That said if you could buy a 3 letter com today for $500 would you buy it?
I'm not saying it is logical from a usage standpoint but from an investment in a rare commodity point of view I would probably buy a domain such as xqk.com for $500 knowing the rarity of it and the potentail for resale as such.
no risk no reward
Given the level of interest in .mobi whether hyped or not, having a LLL domain is a calculable risk. I spend $35 on said LLL, and one year later (most) likely get $35+. Add to that if the domain takes hold. Again, with support from key players, the risk goes down even further. Then take in the fact that the handheld internet market is all but wide open, I just don't see any risk at all.
another good news to mobi lovers! real market comes...
Hi,
For the most part that's true. Obviously.
What extension could possibly be enduser driven when it's 2 weeks old?
Considering everything & all other extensions history, things are moving along exceptionally well.
Many companies took part in pre-regging etc . Endusers also too part in the auction.
Owner of flowers.com was counter-bidding for the .mobi
Enduser i think won the hot.mobi or the other one
There are shedloads of premium names in reserve & in domainers hands. Let's see if some of the endusers start turning out. It'll be nice & i fully expect it in time.
Let's also see if the huge sponsors start throwing dosh at .mobi tv adverts & texts, cos that's how it will get in the public consciousness. Also approaching Business in general.
There will of course be some speculators buying off speculators. Maybe some of them are ones that didn't have the vision 2 weeks ago & now are scrambling for some!![]()

All offers good for 48 hours. All sales threads good for 10 days
I decided to buy 3 a couple days ago after being strongly anti-.mobi
$80 investment, I am pretty darn sure I'll be able to get that much back in the future and if .mobi takes off I'll get alot more. I've always wanted to buy some premium 3 letter .coms, but being a student, I'm not about to part with that much cash at the moment.
My goal is to sell these .mobis for $500 each within 16 months.
I don't think that will be a problem GT. Reasonable expectation in my opinion.

If you have been considering registering some 3-letter .mobis, it's too late. Last night, one or more entities registered all of the several thousand 3-letter combinations that were still available. 3-letter domains are valued in all major extensions because thousands of companies and organizations use a short acronym for their company name. Every possible 3-letter combination had already been taken in .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz, .us and .eu. For the other extensions, prices quickly rose after there was no longer a chance to register domains in the 3-letter category.

I agree that there will always be a large number of mobile phones that will remain with keypad entry, so they can be kept small. Therefore short domains are attractive, especially single-touch letters. The 3 digit single touch letters combinations were the first to go.
The important thing for the future is to 'follow the money'. Think of the value of the companies we have as partners here. Microsoft and Google in the same bed? Do you think they might be looking for a new platform for ad revenue?
The phone manufacturers, Samsung, Noika, Ericsson, want to create a consumer need to replace their old phones. In addition, the service providers will benefit by additional time use.
The general public is not yet aware of .mobi, but I expect that we will see a major advertising push by the sponsors. The power of the combination of these world-wide companies is enormus. The will create a 'need' in the public's mind.
This will all take some time, and development of websites that people want to visit, but it is coming. Be patient, mobi lovers, we have a bright future.
