Apparantly, There are three rumors floating around the blogosphere about dotMobi right now....
1. dotMobi investors are doing nothing with .mobi and created the company as a money making scam.
2. dotMobi will never release its premium names.
3. dotMobi put too much emphasis on live sites.
....The following comments are provided by Neil Edwards, CEO of dotMobi, where he personally addresses popular myths regarding the .mobi top-level domain.....

very interesting - thanks for the post
dot mobi. bought the whole moniker event to promote "mobi sales". When flowers.mobi was purchased I said right away that this is scam.
thanks 3d
WOW........Very Interesting!
sounds exactly like the comments of Enron Executives after the first rumors..
..I love how .mobi is trying to justify their scam by saying something like...there is a huge site that is doing..(WHATEVER)..they sound like cigarette makers saying..our cigarettes cant be bad..we found one 90 year old in Arizona that smokes 2 packs a day and is still alive.. we are not making money here.. we are supporting a free lifestyle..
..their reply to .mobi not being a money scam is answering the next question with selling their premium domains to the highest bidder and the cash going straight to them.. funny..
"I did not have sexual relations with this woman..."
DNGazette.com - for sale
I believe in mobi. I have nothing against this extension by the way. I think it is much better that many other extensions. People will realize at some point that this is exist and
this is mostly for the mobile phone websites.
Having said all that I sill realize that .mobi promotion is a scam. I believe that people that
buy mobies for 6 digits get refunds from the registry. I believe that the registry and well known domainers are using us - regular domainers, this forum, the the whole domain community
to take this extension to the unseen hights. Few "crazy" sales that probably never existed create assumption that this extension cost a lot of money.
any time you can create a demand for something, then you can "jack-up" the price.
by not releasing certain domains in the beginning, and holding them to create a "so-called" premium or reserved list, you create a desire for something that people can't have when they want it. you gotta build up an anticipation factor, create some anxiety...
when are they going to release those names
where is the auction
who is conducting the bidding
how do i sign-up
once you build that buzz, then the auction should be a frenzy!
some will make money from .mobi and i'm happy for those who did and still are
but i pity those who put ALL their eggs in this basket!
Good Luck![]()

how wrong this rumor is. Moniker will be featuring .mobi's premium names at several auction events starting at TRAFFIC.
just some that will be featured are:
hotel.mobi
car.mobi
shopping.mobi
radio.mobi
email.mobi
investment.mobi
mortgage.mobi
cash.mobi
banks.mobi
careers.mobi
and there are 250 more like this.
there is no scam or anything going and they are in full support of their extension and will begin promoting it heavily now from what we hear. We are happy to have exclusive right to their best inventory and it will be released in various auction events over the next 12 months.

But I just can't stop using the lovely .com button on my iphone <3
Interesting little discussion. The future will be entertaining.
The rumor was never if certain domains are not going to be released, that was always clear...that "rumor" was made up by mobi itself to drum up some PR.
The real issue is that certain domains like those are held back to make sure there are almost no premiums available to jack up the price and sell them to the highest bidder that actually thinks .mobi has a real future.
The money is not going to some beneficial cause or anything but only to .mobi and to whoever is involved in the auction and it getting kickbacks. It might not be a scam, but you know better than anyone that its just a well promoted TLD that brings nothing new to the table and has no advantage over any other TLD. Why else whould moniker.mobi forward to moniker.com ?
