There is no "truth" in journalism anymore thanks to the internet. He makes blanket statements without support or any documentation whatsoever.

And, not surprising, he does not respond to emails or posts comment regarding his commentary.

Yes, I am pro-mobi. I am also pro-com, net, responsible gun and pet owners, healthcare for all, and more. But I am quickly finding myself to becoming more and more anti-mobi critic who criticize without any concrete substance to their points or critiques other than simply for the pleasure of expressing their own opinions, stroking themselves, and to get readers.

Controversy is free publicity. And in the domain world, there a few things controversial or highly talked about and TM violations, disaster regs, registrar and ICANN responsibility, and .mobi are the hot topics.

And it seems that the only ones talking about .mobi are domainers.

If Colin is a member of this forum, then publish the email and comments I sent you.
I have no idea who he is, just pointing out this article is in every break room of every wireless store in the the united states. It may or may not be correct but I saw people typing in m. something after reading it. These were people who never typed in .mobi.

I am not for or against .mobi either so don't beat me up I just have worked in wireless the last 10 years, I want a universal standard for mobile web pages no matter how it comes.

Not lashing at you, lashing at this Colin dude.

The m. thing is one of tens of thousands of nifty neato ways that webmasters and programmers can create to indicate a mobile site. A prefix here, a suffix there, a slash here, a dot there. Designer domains is what it boils down to...how creative can I be for every domain I have, every website I own, to stand out from the crowd.

Or, just say and use .mobi.

Let's get back to this for a second:

An industry entrepreneur does not own her full name domain - not only in .mobi, but also as a .com

Please explain to me why I would trust this person's authority on industry matters.

She is quoting people in the article, doubtful (on appearances) she has much personal knowledge on domaining.

She quotes Charles Steinfield, chairperson of the Department of Telecommunication, Information Studies and Media at Michigan State University.

Charles Stanfield is available in charlessteinfield
    .com
    .net
    .mobi
    .org
    .us
    .us.com
    .info
    .tv
    .cc
    .bz
    .biz
    .co.uk
    .eu
    .de

Colin Gibbs, the author of the other piece referenced, is available as colingibbs extensions:
    .net
    .org
    .us
    .mobi
    .info
    .biz
    .de
    .tv
    .eu
    .bz

Now, notice ColinGibbs.com is taken. Is it him? Who knows. The name has been regged since 2000 and is a parked page.

But he quotes other articles and reports that I have already seen. So is this true journalism? Does anyone interview anyone on a one-to-one basis anymore?

In the age of blogging, all it takes is a keyboard, a site, an RSS feed, and add a comment here and there and you have instant content. Very little original thought. But it's all about content.

The author, Melissa Campanelli, has 385 other articles (?) from www.entrepreneur.com for Melissa Campanelli. (0.15 seconds). As a writer, I would imagine you are given assignments or create an interesting story line. Too bad little first hand knowledge is needed anymore in journalism.

    Hmmm give him a break
It's a moot point actually as I am sure only a tiny fraction of DNF members have secured their own name
Still looking for fresh mobi registrations stats
