C'mon you guys. You can do better than that for english cell phone use.
Now think just a bit. Who carries these little phones in the US? That's right. Rappers, hookers, out of town business men, and punk kids. Now think some more. What do they use the phones for? Stupid annoying ringtones? Yep. Checking movie times? Yep Ordering a pizza? Now you're thinkin. But, what would they call about and spend lots of money on? Well if it's the business men they're looking for a CHEAPWHORE.MOBI (avail) and if it's the rappers they're looking for CRACKCOCAINE.MOBI (avail). Besides the ringtones, movies and pizzas, I don't think the punk kids know what they want.

People ages 8-100 have cell phones now. Here (in California) they have phones with 4 buttons and preset phone numbers on them so young kids can always call mom or dad by pressing a button, but can't call whomever they want.
Heck, I've even bums who have cell phones. (no joke)
Maybe adult ringtones could be like a sexy voice saying someones calling for you - a la nametones, however I dont think many people will want their ring sound to be grunting and moaning or wet slapping sounds. At least not at work.

OK, I'm game. Besides calling the office, friends, family, church, the lions club, and the pizza joint. What else do you use that cell phone for? Seriously, I don't have a cell phone, (had one someplace once) and can't see why I'd want one either. Educate me a bit please. I'm not against regging some mobi domains that make sense to flow with the hype at least short term.
How would you use something like that? Is it meant to be an aggregator of all things for college students, or would a cell phone user type that in if they wanted to talk to one?

Dont just think it'll be people looking at a website related to someplace they're going to call.
When mobile internet rates come down is the key.
Think - you're a kid with a .mobi ready phone in the car on the way home from school, what will you look for?
You're on the train going to work and have mobile ready phone and you're bored. What would you look up?
How often are people in a situation where they have to wait, and they have nothing but their internet ready phone on them?
What can you as a developer present to a user that will be informative or entertaining on a 200 x 200 screen?

3D GAMES I like your reg of AdultRingtones.mobi
I can envision people downloading adult ringtones from their favorite adult entertainment site. Perhaps one will download their favorite adult porn star and song.....when a call hits your mobile phone....your favorite adult porn star flashes along with your favorite song.....AdultRingtones.mobi is born.....actually AdultRingtones already exist and they are becoming increasingly popular......great reg 3DGeek!

Your about 10 years off with this assessment Stoc.. this might been the case back in 1997, but approaching 2007--things have changed a bit.
I had a cellphone back when some people still used to do a double-take or whisper to their friend sitting beside them "that person is talking on a cellphone, hehehe." Also owned a Blackberry for about 1yr, until i realized that answering email on the go (unless its necessary) is kinda annoying...im not much of a "phone internet surfer" either.. and i didnt like the little keyboard, even tho it was qwerty style.. never wrote a text message in my life.. and the little screen... i guess i (and many others) have been spoiled by that nice 19" flat panel lcd we typically use..
I didnt like the size of the blackberry either... was a bit bulky to carry around all the time... i found myself leaving it at home, thus using it as a cellphone became pointless. For the short time i owned this device, i would notice a blast from the past so to speak... people would (unless you were at an airport) look at you as if they were thinking "that person is talking on some sort of computer...or large thing"
This should tell us at least one thing--we are in the early days of mobile computing.. no im not talking about laptops... im talking about the next thing.. smaller than laptops... it will be: a piece of paper, a phone, a real-time translater, a search engine (that comes up with usable results)... basically an all in one communication / organization / anything you want Device.
Everyone should stop and ask themselves, what type of mobile devices and internet is going to exist 10 years from now.. I dont know, do you?
Its definetely going somewhere and is the natural progression of computers.. to get cheaper, smaller, cooler, and more efficient...and yes, popular--thats the big one.
Will .mobi be a part of this? I dont know... we'll see how well the dot-mobi registry and its sponsors do. But mobile computing and mobile internet is going to go INSANE and take off... doesnt matter if guys like me dont use a cellphone or other mobile device for the internet or text messaging or whatever right now... right now is not what matters.. the unknown is what interests me.
We have a mindset right now that: our computers are at home/work. thats where we use them... why would we want to carry around one all the time, or most of the time--no matter how small it is.
again, i dont know but something is going to change when you look at the year 2016 and then look back on 2006... interesting things in the future... .mobi or no .mobi.
Since .mobi has all these sponsors that are GIANTS in the computer and cellular world, i say it has a run for its money, because mobile computing/internet is GOING TO take off like crazy.. with or without .mobi
