    Question NEWYORK.mobi etc....

Names like newyork.mobi , sanfransisco.mobi etc are RESERVED.

But I have noticed new-york.mobi & san-francisco.mobi etc... have also been snapped up.

Do you think using the 'dash' is a wise move??

    Re: NEWYORK.mobi etc....

the reason many .mobi names are reserved is to make you think they are valuable.

thus you go out and try to find similiar names to register.

then after you've regged all those, then they will auction the "reserved" names off to suckers at inflated prices.

it's totally a scam imo to "reserve" these names in an effort to bolster this extension.

for instance, one member posted yesterday about a .mobi reserve list of names that start with "online".

it's a redundant term in the first place, since you're already accessing the internet, which is online.

.mobi is not going to replace .com as king!

its true there are a lot of junk names on the reserved list... there are also a few decent strong keywords still available..just add an "S" or take off an "S" to some of the premium words.. but be careful doing this if english is not your first language..

    Re: NEWYORK.mobi etc....

The question is really about the hyphen in a .mobi. It depends on how you think people will be accessing websites on a mobile device. If you think QWERTY will take over, then the hyphen will be easier to type than on a keypad.

I think the hyphen is always a detractor and although QWERTY will make big advances, keypad entry will continue to be a major part of the .mobi picture for size considerations.

If QWERTY takes over, you might be on to something. If you like to roll the dice, the reg fees are a small amount to bet.

    Good Luck

imo hyphen is okay for New-York and things that already have a hyphen in them sometimes...

to me, if youve seen it written like that commonly its worth the $17 to reg it.. i took pre-pay.mobi and pre-paid.mobi, already gotten offers on sedo for the last one.

    Re: NEWYORK.mobi etc....

The hyphen question can be answered generically. Without the hypen the name is worth more and it will get some of the the hyphen traffic by default unless some sort of advertising is done to say the hyphenated domain exsists. This could apply to all extentions, .mobi is nothing special IMHO.

    well said that man!
    hyphenated domains can work, sometimes.
i don't see why this extension should be any different to any other. i have one.
i checked the original & it was obviously taken by the owners.
    MANUTD.MOBI (Manchester United Football Club)
People from all over the world type in MANUTD.COM & will continue to do so. They will also type in the mobi equivalent.
To a much lesser extent (but still significant in volume) they will type in
    MAN-UTD.MOBI i believe.
Its two words conjoined & alkso looks nice. It is also well balanced, 3 letters on each side.
I think it's a solid reg. Time will tell.
As long as you think about the regges, no problem. Same as mj's PRE-PAY. It works.
There are few that will work. But the usual thing, hearing the doubters rant. It's hilarious.

    imo

Exactly and thus the $200K sale of flowers.mobi lends to conspiracy theories. Can you imagine if it only went for $5K or $10K ? It was VERY important a huge sale took place, literally financial futures depended on it. I highly doubt the likes of the domain worlds top players who spent these sums just wanted to see the investment guys in .mobi make off...

Infact the top players could have gathered and decided to NOT pay high prices ! The only reason I can see why they wouldnt is 1) it would devalue their investment(s) and 2) No one pays you off handsomely to NOT inflate the sale price. Also it is possible NO funny business happened at all and flowers.mobi is worth every bit of $200K.

Again I am not saying any of these things happened, just all very likely possibilities. :bandit:

    Thumbs up Re: NEWYORK.mobi etc....

    :greensleepw:

I thank everybody for their input so far.... Although I would like to reflect my opinion on this please.

Firstly - Nobody and thats 'Nobody' on this forum or anywhere else is a fortune teller nor can they predict the future. Even the experts can get things wrong when it comes to technology and its future.

The .COM is defo the king on full size Pc, laptop, a 10" screen laptop or even the PDAs(not too sure). I Agree.

Mobile Phones are not any of the above. There are a few Mobile SmartPhones on the market which have QWERTY keys, internet etc. BUT These are simply too big as Mobiles and too small as PDA.

In todays reality & according to probably 99% of the general public, a "Mobile Phone" is about 10mm Thick, 50mm Wide and 100mm in Height. These are only getting smaller and thinner by the week as per public demand around the world. :tea:

QWERTY is simply useless on these sizes, BECAUSE WE ALL WANT SMALLER PHONES TO HIDE IN OUR POCKETS AND BIGGER KEYPADS FOR EASY USAGE. (QWERTY is out of the question). Hence, the Standard 9-key for Mobile phones will always be KING.

Nobody wants to carry around Chunky Mobile Phones anymore. If you don't believe me, then you are all spending too much time on your PCs/PDAs. and desperately need to get out a bit more.

This is where THE .mobi comes along. It is THE 'Mobile Phone' Guaranteed Friendly TLD for the MOBILE PHONES(not your PDAs etc.). Once the General Public around the world find out about this 'Mobile Phone' TLD and the ISPs get cheaper, Hell will break loose. We will see a turning point in the way the internet will be used anytime and anywhere without carrying a brick.

It is going to be almost Impossible for even 1 or 2% of the worlds current .COMs to be ready to accommodate the MobilePhone Internet timebomb which is about to explode very soon. I hope you are all ready for it.:wof:

This is why the .MOBI will be KING for Mobile Phones

Oh and by the way, back to the 'dash' topic....

I just couldn't wait any longer and took a dive and registered 3 .mobis with a dash... :-D

    I have a qwerty PDA

    and its nice

    it does everything.

It was surprisingly easy to carry the pda.. and easy to use the qwerty keyboard,

much better than carrying a camera, video camera, ipod, laptop for email, organizer, etc.

    cellphone to evolve to PDA.

I agree..... but PDA users will always only be a small minority in the mass market. The majority love the smaller Mobile Phone.

PDAs will never compete with the smaller MobilePhones unless they loose their screen size (which then makes them a mobile phone).

latest mobilephones = small lcd screens = .mobi easy to use websites

This is not about what we personally prefer to use, but its what the worlds majority are demanding.... small & sexy looking phones that do everything..
