    Arrow **NOKIA broadcasts MEDEO.mobi (NOKIA's 6th .mobi) -- MobileTv services **

Shows & mobisodes on mobile TV now playing at NOKIA's Medeo.mobi

    Medeo.mobi

    Here is the link:

    http://noknok.tv/news/mobile-video-o...nd-the-future/

    Here is the text:

Mobile video on demand - The Future!

Your phone can show off clips in the pub right now, but give it a few months, and it’ll become your portal to a whole world of telly.

For years we’ve been told that mobile TV is the future. 3G firms have spent billions convincing us to pay for news roundups, sports feeds and comedy shows through our phones, but because of the dodgy picture quality, ropey content and the huge cost in battery life, it hasn’t really caught on.

Even Virgin Mobile’s streaming TV service, which piggy backed proper telly over DAB radio waves, failed to grab much attention, although that’s more likely because of the ugly phone required to receive it.

This year will see a rebirth for telly on your mobile though, and it’s all thanks to real video on demand.

Nokia has just launched Medeo, a free video portal with top-notch content from film trailers to star interviews and comedy clips. There’s already content on there by Jerry Seinfeld, Tom Cruise and Jay-Z. Plus, it’s all available on-demand, and you don’t need to pay extra to see it. Point your phone at http://medeo.mobi to see it in action.

Even better, the BBC has just flipped the streaming switch on its iPlayer software, meaning any device capable of playing Flash can stream the last seven days of BBC TV or radio absolutely free.

At the moment, only the fanciest smartphones can run Flash applications, but there’ll be an avalanche of them in 2008, just itching to tune into streamed telly without any extra expense.

It’s the beginning of a new generation of on-demand TV through your mobile, and means the days of paying over the odds for iffy programmes through your network’s 3G portal are over. The real broadcasters are here now, and they’re making Mobile TV exciting again.

    This is exciting news indeed!

Certainly Adobe Flash Lite 3 and Nokia will team up making Flash Videos available for mobiles soon!

Adobe's Mobile Flash Video News Release

I made a Mobile Flash Video sample that can be seen on certain new mobile phones so i know its possible (and its my job!).

I wonder why Nokia didnt offer me anything for my Med,mobi domain...

if you do it via the cell phone, don't you have any trouble reading large volumes of text? I don't see the mobile screen to be fit for reading large pieces of text.

But then, MobileDesigner, you're from Japan, where mobile novels are a big rage, so things might be different for you in your context.

Japan is not my home and the English newspapers have a day delay. I need to see the news from around the world when i cannot access the pc. I find reading news by mobile in the following situations when unable to view news via TV/PC:

    1. when i am unable to see the news during work.
    2. when I am waiting for a friend or my wife
    3. when im stuck in the toilet
    4. when im in a boring meeting
    5. when im eating alone
    6. when im travelling on the train
    7. when im waiting for a train
    8. at my in-laws house (they dont have a computer)
    9. when my wife is chatting with her friends on the internet
    10. when cnn keeps running the damn cnn commericals and i want new NOW
    11. etc.

certainly, pc and tv is the best, but when you are away, the mobile sites are helpful

most of the content that I collected handles less than 25Kb per page. Here in Japan, we have "packet houdai" (all you can download) so i have no worries. Depending on which phone you are using, it should show the text size as they were made. So the mobile sites that i listed and developed usually have textsize=7. Some of the sites are WAP which is soooo old for us in Japan.

are there any Indian mobile news sites? I would love to link them to my mobile website portals. And i would really love to read the news from India. Really hate that america monopolizes such access from around the world.

And if there is anyone from other countries that have mobile news from other countries like Russia, Thailand, Australia, China, etc, please do post or pm them to me. I have many users accessing the mobile sites i listed. They would really like to read about your country

    Jonathan, excellent points.

That is the primary issue that I think most are missing...this is a global TLD.

Asia is far, far along with the mobile internet. The "japanese schoolgirl craze" is not just a phenomenon but is an actual marketing study for trends. Trends that first take place in Japan (and Korea), later to Europe, and finally to the US.

The iPhone is a great device but technology that has been in use for quite sometime in Asia. The release of the iPhone here was met with big fanfare and pre-launch hype unseen in advertising for quite sometime. The is the difference in Apple promotion and the Asian markets...it was not a big deal from what I gather.

I have the Helio Ocean which I feel is not only an incredible phone but incredible mini computer.

Thanks for your input, Jon and hope all is well in Japan.

Even though I don't use my cellphone for anything other than calls, I'll admit that there are certain things that mobile websites can be great for: scores, news, stock quotes, and music.

For all my feelings against .mobi, I will say that the mobile web is pretty useful and here to say.
