I am sitting here watching the snapnames auction and i see
porn.mobi go for 100k+
broadway.mobi 17k
How do these people justify paying these prices for a domain that is popularly believed to be "doomed"
I have to assume that this is what these people do for a living and they must know what they are doing
???
actually i dont but i wasn't going to pass up the possibility....
Look at it the other way around. .mobi is touted as the second best TLD, and Music.mobi went for $675k, while flowers.mobi went for 200k
Now here comes another auction with a much bigger presence, and Porn.mobi goes for 110k. Porn is a better keyword than Music or flowers anyday, and is very very relelvant too.
I think this auction gave us the right position of .mobi

Comparing with other .mobi prices porn.mobi for $110K was ultracheapo

Why are these people spending all this money though... Are they grasping for straws... I wouldn't pay 10k for porn.mobi much less 110k
I guess domaining is like the commentary on this thread...
Speculating as to the reasons why.
Why were there no bidders on Indian.com?
Why did meds.com only sell for $470K
Did people think the domain industry is inflationary and recession proof?
Sounds like somebody sold some folks in this thread on some other hyperbole bullshit than trying to convince me that .mobi is a losing proposition.
any idea what the mobi's in my signature would go for in an auction like that?

Can't tell you what the auction price would be, but on domain forums they have dropped by two-thirds in the past six months - the LLL.mobi's. Once selling for $1000 or more each, you can snap them up for a third of that or less now. That correction will eventually trickle down to the other vastly-overpriced mobi domains sold this past year. People still paying tens of thousands of dollars either have a direct development plan, are new to the game(been reading the hundreds of pump and dump threads), never used a new cellphone, or have the money to burn - or a combo there of.
It certainly wasn't for the parking revenue!

And to you think meds.com is a true representation of its worth a month or two ago?
And Indian.com not even getting a bid to start the reserve at $250K?
Or retired.com did not sell?
But yet you want to claim that this is a .mobi problem?
Just how shallow and stupid can you be to say this?
I am absolutely amazed at the ignorance displayed in this one thread.
Aww, what's the matter Doc - the truth of falling mobi prices hit a raw nerve?

for starters meds.com would be monetized better offshore and parked to avoid FDA issues and other crap.
Indian.com we know it changed hands 2 times, it's confusing term (diff meaning in US vs Europe/etc) you can argue they overpaid on the other hand porno.mobi vs music.mobi 650k? Just admit it...![]()
What about a falling .com. Can you not get the gist of my point or are you really that damn dense?
My point is not even .mobi.
Look at meds and retired. What is the largest as well as the fastest growing segment in the states right now...the baby boomers.
To me, the whole notion of meds going for what it did and retired.com not even being sold is troubling as a whole. Beyond a doubt, those two along with Indian would be in my account right now had I had the money.
And Indian? Guess which population is expected to surpass the Chinese population by the year 2015 (if not sooner) as the most populous nation and people on earth?
These are gems. Pure investment grade potential gems.
My point is with the overall quality of these names being offered tonight and the prices they brought, regardless of extension, should be a wake up call to everyone that this precious domain industry is not recession proof.
Do you people really live in this little domaindom that you created for yourselves? Do you think all I care about is what the hell mobi does or does not do?
My god, I just can not get over how blind, one sided, and what piss poor common sense that most on this forum have. It is more shocking than what I witnessed tonight.
In truth, when it sold I can certainly see music.mobi going for that much.
The music industry is getting beat up, kicked around and falling flat on its face.
One thing that is HUGELY profitable for them and the recording artists are downloadable ringtones. This is all about convenience. With the added memory cards for the phones, you better believe I see Music.mobi going for what it did at the time. At the time is the key now. What a difference a couple of months make when we are talking world and global economics.

Porno...sorry, I am not sure who bought it (I think I might) but I would not have paid that kind of jack for the added letter which is mostly european, but still transcends borders.
And the idea that Indian is confusing is not a good argument to me.
I have just cornered the market for an American History site, Indian Motorcycle and antique motorcycle enthusiasts, and a segment of the (currently) second largest population on the globe.
Some folks seriously need to go back and re-read their own words.
I guess you are that ignorant. Shit is shit in any extension.
The most I have ever paid for an LLL.mobi is $350.00. And not only is it a stand alone 3 letter word it is also an abbreviation for a few global products in different industrial sectors and also the standard abbreviation of towns and cities in the states and UK.
Lets take you example of them dropping by two thirds.
Guess what? They went up!
You preached this same shit in a thread last week or two. Falling LLL.mobi.
What did I see tonight? An LLL.mobi go for a nice sum of money!
So you're 2/3 equation demonstrates you have 1/3 of a brain.
