Im new here and sorry if im off base. Any time I sell digital goods for a large amount through paypal I always send a CD with info about the sell to the confirmed address on the account. Then I use the tracking information into paypal so im covered if something like this ever happens. Of course if they do a charge back with a credit card your screwed regardless but when its a stolen account you will be covered under seller protection if you have tracking info that matches the confirmed address on file.

Again sorry if this is off base and sorry for your loss. It sucks that people out there will do this to others.

If Paypal does not refund or reverse the charge, Call your Credit card company and dispute the charge at the end, you have 60 days to do it. If you paid with Paypal funds, your at the mercy of Paypal, meaning your pretty much screwed.

I said it before and I'll say it again... Anything over $300-$500, it's wise to use an escrow service... It's really not that slow, I usually get my check in about 1 week and I dont have to pay Paypal fees. You guys need to protect yourselves against this kind of crap, STOP using Paypal and STOP being a victim!

If what the buyer purchased is not on that CD, what your doing is committing mail fraud! I was a victim of a guy that did this same thing, and I pursued action against him through the Postal Service, and they did in fact classify it as fraud.

I agree with Raider, i only use Paypal of over xxx$ if the buyer or seller is a very trusted member of one of the big forums.

What is the time paypal allows for chargebacks? I think it is possible to wait for the pp funds to clear before sending domains to untrusted buyers. Where they using a verified paypal account?

Just talked with someone at Moniker today. They put a hold on the name. Apparently the person already pushed the name and was now trying to move it out of Moniker. They want me to forward the paypal transaction and anything that will help them out.

Steve

Also this person did have a verified paypal account.

I use PayPal for other online services (mostly subscription services), and I'm not aware of any time limit at all for PayPal reversals. It's happened months after the fact in some cases, which would make it impossible to wait until they "clear".
For the seller to refund a payment the limit is 2 months, but there appears to be no limit for the buyer to contest a payment.

This reminds me to start using moneybookers.com i dont think you can do charge backs once you made a sale.

Or just close the thread with the last word like nametrader did in my harsha thread. Oh well, I did receive a refund and nametrader averred that I deserved to be ripped off (suggesting a conspiracy to engage in illegal activity). So therefore, why bother taking action against the perpetrator when you can simply insult the victim?

Sorry, if I deviated off point. It seems some mods needs to learn that management involves objectivity and learn to not allow their own personal opinions to get in the way of rational decision-making.

This isn't the place for that. I'm not current on your specific situation, but allow me to quote rule #21:
Quote:
21. Users may disagree with the decisions or actions of the moderators and/or administrators, however, disagreements, criticism and the like are not to be aired within the forums. Please feel free to PM the person directly rather than air your dirty laundry in public.
If you have not read the rules lately, DomainFatigue, now is the time. http://www.dnforum.com/rules.php
Feel free to send me a PM so we can talk about it, possibly remedy the situation. But nothing further here please, thanks!

ok, totally noob question here, i havn't been selling that long so can someone explain what is meant by the term 'chargeback'? sounds like indian giving. Honestly it doesn't quite make sense to me, but perhaps it just needs explaining. but if, after a shopping spree at my local retail electronics store, i could issue a 'chargeback' *before* i've had the chance to return the merchandise, wouldn't that be merry! You would all call me Santa Claus this year!

chargeback = they paid with a credit card via paypal and they had their credit card company reverse the payment. 99 % of the time they win no matter the circumstances.

So when you found you couldn't get away with the domains and they were locked by the registrars, you try to play innocent?
