    Is broadcast news copyright protected?

I own a board where a few of the members would link back to a news clip off of youtube to make their point. Is this a violation of copyright laws?

If so, how is it that the youtube member was able to post the news clip on the youtube site in the 1st place?

    Thanks!

What's the purpose of "embed code"?
You use it to put it on your site.
So, I think it's safe if it has embed code.

Some video has embed code disabled.

Good point on the embedded link. However, links can fail for a number of reasons and become defunct. I was hoping to encourage/allow the upload of news clips to the board for longevity.

Well, you can always download the video file, upload it to your server and host it yourself. Plus, for safety, you can grab screenshot of "embed code" to prove that Youtube allowed it.

However, I am NOT a lawyer
