Chris, if you are going to write copy commercially, then I would suggest that you run what you post through a grammar checker. I'm not trying to be clever here, but a post like the one you've just made has a lot of errors. PM me if you like.

Hi

Since you've been gone a while, perhaps you should RE-READ forum rules

I have been writing copy commercially for just under six years now - this post was not meant to be an example of excellent grammar, spelling or anything else, just a quick and unedited post meant for the reading pleasure of my fellow DNFers

While I will point out that there was no soliciatation intended there, your point is taken and I will take the time to review those rules before posting again

So a big "ouch!" on the first two replies then Any thoughts on what I posted aside from structural critiques or hand-smacks from mods?

If I were you, I'd ask a moderator to move the thread.

I was hoping only for a discussion on the terminology and how it is viewed by writers and buyers - this forum still seems like the best fit? My original link threw the whole thing off methinks

To clarify, all I'm really asking in this thread is how the terms are viewed in general and whether, again generally, folks think that the services should be combined as I've described or separated to allow for better use of the existing terminology.

Cheers, and my apologies for the confusion

Hi

when you start off by stating "The writing services I offer" then the rest of the post is promotional

rather than discussing the differences between content and copy writing in general as the title leads readers to assume, you make a point of letting it be known that you offer one or both these services.

you are not the first to try and promote services here thru subtle advertising.

Way too many bad spells and put-off does not get hyphenated, (twice!).
i would have a serious think about your chosen text for promotion.

How the terms are viewed in general?

Well I thought this thread was for job posts for writing, but let's see:

I say copywriting is just filling space with advertorial intent, but content writing is a algebraic mix of goals for a given word count of prose.

Hope that helps.

I'm very fussy about English myself, but can't see an awful lot wrong with the site. Certainly it's well up there with most I've seen. But it seems to me that the general standard of English has dropped on the web, particularly if posts on forums are anything to go by. Commas tend to be invisible and it seems to be too hard to capitalize where appropriate. But then we have to allow for the fact that many of those posting on web threads are not native English speakers. I certainly couldn't attempt to post in Spanish or French or anything else, let alone know what's going on in a discussion.
