Country: | Domain Content Package I am an experienced writer who is struggling to learn how to set up websites. It occurred to me that there may be skilled web people out there who would buy a domain name with three pages of unique content attached that they can then make into a mini-site. Is this a crazy idea?

Country: | Not at all. Better yet, if you can write the content, put it on a server for a few months, let it get some good rankings in the search engines, then sell it. Or put you own ads up & make residual income. If you want an easy way to make your own websites, go grab a copy of coffecup's free website builder: http://www.coffeecup.com/freestuff/ Or try netobjects fusion, get the 30 day trial. It come with lots of templates, and it's easy to learn & use for a beginner.

Country: | Thanks, South. But the main reason I wondered about this idea is that I have a bunch of domains up for renewal from March onwards and thought that they might sell quicker with the three pages of unique content. I have several others that I am more passionate about that I would like to develop beyond mini-site stage and am concentrating my web-design-learning efforts on these.

Develop them then turn them around for the turnkey websites. If people see the value, well you realize the rest of this.. Always focus on the bigger fishies | |

Country: | Thanks, Patty. The problem is, of course, that to develop them I will have to renew them, as my web building abilities are nowhere near my content writing abilities at the moment. ![]()

Country: | Domain Name + Content = Value. As a buyer I can really care less about the design of the site. I look for a solid domain name first. If you have dashes "-" in your domain name for example, dump them because you are wasting your time. If you have 3 word or less .com domain names that reflect the market they are in, that's good. Maybe read a few domaining articles for more on this point. Next is your content. Unique means you took the time to write it yourself as you would a college paper. The more the better. Use folders on your site as you would on your desktop to hold related info. Add in some pictures where it makes sense. Keep it simple. You really only need basic HTML with CSS, that's one small book to read. Header, Sidebar, Content, Footer as a DIV structure (read that HTML / CSS book). That's enough free advice to get you started I think. |
