Found a great writer for the subject but he's not well versed in SEO

Have you ever faced this problem?

I found a great writer who is very knowledgeable about the subject my web site will be about. Unfortunately he doesn't know a thing about SEO. (He writes for magazines and newspapers).

Should I hire him to write the articles the way he normally would and then hire an SEO expert to make the necessary changes?

Or should I hire an experienced SEO-friendly content writer (from this forum or elsewhere) who may not know much about my web site's subject but will do the research?

All input is appreciated

Thanks

What makes him great? Is it his style, vocabulary etc. Decide on what's important for your content; optimizing great copy is better than writing SEO-specific copy that reads like it was produced by a monkey.

why are you expecting a writer to have SEO experience?

just get a good writer and you won't need an seo expert

imo...

It's always best to get a great writer who knows seo as well. But you have to remember its really hard to get a good writer nowadays since a lot are just pretending to be one. I guess in your case its good that you hire him and then require him to have at least a few knowledge about seo regarding on the targeted keywords you would want.

I write well but there's no helping a webmaster who wants SEo results by the next day or week. I am good writer but i am not the Google Gandalf.

I think it is easier to teach a writer basic SEO then it is to teach an SEO person how to write.

On page stuff, especially the main content, is simple to optimize. It isn't hard to show someone that.
