Recipes & Copyright

Hi,

I want to set up a website about chicken recipes.
My question is can recipes be copyrighted? And what's usual in that regard, because it seems to me like there are only so many ways to to prepare barbeque chicken wings (yes, you can alter the spices a bit, but there are some all time favourites).

Thanks,
Richard

So basically, you can take recipes off of other sites, and change a few words here and there in the instructions.

U.S. copyright law regarding recipes

http://www.copyright.gov/fls/fl122.html

A recipe with only a list of ingredients is not subject to U.S. copyright protection. However a recipe with substantial directions may be eligible for copyright protection.

I have a "tamale" domain and I've been wondering the same thing. This is good to know.
