As is usually recommended in this business, reading books doesn't help that much. Go look at other peoples blogs, start your own - wordpress is an excellent open source script for that.

It all depends what your goals are... can you be more specific?

If you are looking to blog with the ultimate aim of generating affiliate commissions there are several ebooks on that topic.

agree.. first identify your audience, and what you want to achieve with your blog..

I say try out webloggers.org ... the mods are quite helpful and offer nice tips for newbie bloggers.

Check out http://www.problogger.net/ and under the "Popular at Problogger" tabber, look at all the articles for Beginners. It's a great place to start.
