    Lack of Canadian affiliate programs

Canadians, have you noticed how prominent stores in Canada rarely have affiliate programs set for their web sites? eg, Futureshop.ca, Bestbuy.ca (yet Bestbuy.com has one), Staples.ca (yet Staples.com).

Do you think they will ever get one?

cj.com has more Canadian affiliate listings than they used to. also there is CanadianSponsors.com with french/english Canadian programs. but I agree canadian stores are lagging behind the US. more canadian affiliate programs would be good to target to canadians. shipping costs from buying from US stores are really high. bought a book for $20 and cost me $20 extra in shipping - unfortunately it wasn't a book available at Amazon or Chapters.

I've even written some large Canadian retailers asking if they have an affiliate program but just don't advertise the fact - they don't. One even replied - "we don't see any upside". Strangely they are one that nearly went under a few years ago..

connect commerce/double click or whatever they call themselves also have Canadian retailers.

Odd isn't it? Yet 32 million Canadians managed to spend $7.9 billion online in 2005. Must be a lot of porn purchases...

I think the identity theft problem is the biggest issue. The lack of UPS/DSL/Fedex trucks here is simply mind boggling for me.....

Most large CPA networks are pushing English-speaking international offers (CA, AU, UK) very hard. If you aren't looking for physical product shipment, you can find tons in the lead gen / intangible asset campaigns to run.
