Think before you post man. Who wants more competition?
The key is to find a void or a niche and fill that void.
There is a similar thread discussing strategies and why's elsewhere.

In a sense, I agree with dcristo on this.
Look at it this way...why have a travel site when there are billions of them and you are competing for viewership over Orbitz, Travelocity, Priceline and more.
Find a void - fill it.
Ahhh... you misunderstand, I should have been clearer, sorry...
I am not looking to copy niches or content or anything like that, I was just curious to see some sites done by members here that actually make money for the purpose of gaining some insight on how the ads are placed, what type of ads are displayed, etc...
I have my own domains and I plan on developing them, not go out and grab new domains because someone else makes money based on a particular keyword, etc...
I have read many case studies and posts saying to place ads here, use this colour, etc... but I have no idea if those sites actually make money...
Anyway, thanks for posting the link to the other thread Doc...
Here is a site I just recently did...
StonesMusic.com
I can not talk about the adsense amounts yet as this site is perhaps a couple of days old after going live.
I am still not 100% happy about this site's design but will give it a go and see what happens.
This is another that has been up for a few weeks:
CovertTruth.com
I believe ad placement and color is crucial. I want the ads to be part of the site and not jump out and scream at you.
Unless you have a portal specifically for that purpose, think of all the sites you have visited that is simply annoying to the eye and brain.
I still need to go back in and add Google Analytics, very crucial for measuring traffic, origin, new visitors etc.
I have good luck with both the link and content ads. One site (not mentioned) has brought in $89 in Adsense for only about 2 -3 weeks.
For long articles, I think it is a good idea to break up the space with ads. But again, something that blends rather than screams...especially when dealing with serious subject matter.
I would be interested in seeing further responses from other members.
The best way to see this, is to view the "Websites For Sale" section.
many of the sellers use adsense as the source of revenue and the info you seek is right in front of you.
additionally I agree that you not post links to sites here
there is also a seperate section here in this forum for Adsense discussion
Thanks

Instead of posting sites and want-not, think of it this way.
We, as humans, have been trained, for many, many years to READ FROM LEFT TO RIGHT. One should practice this same philosophy when integrating any important content into their site.
Newspapers, Magazines, and yes, Websites, too. How many important things that you want read are placed bottom right under the fold? If your running a successful medium, nothing is.
Just look all around, its common practice to do the common things, because we are so habitually trained to do it.
Logos, Titles, & Headlines everywhere you see top left. Why? Because we are trained to look there first. It establishes the medium. It's a set-up.
Think of the left of the page as more like "home plate". We are trained to start reading from left to right, so it seems natural to place ads to the left.
Next, think of the meat of your page, the content. The farther right ones eyes go as they read, the less attention is payed to the words. When we "snap" back to the left, its like a "fresh" start for the eyes, and our attention is renewed. Also, the more content there is, the less attention, in general, is payed to the right at all.
Lets attempt to map this out? Shall we? Think of the following as a sort of eye map of "hotspots" use the following to measure:
1 2 3 4 5 6
Cold xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx Hot

As the eyes gaze the page, the lose focus to the right the farther down the page. Below the fold, forget it.
In my experience, placing adsense above the fold, near the center of the page, but below the header has served me well. Also link ads in the lower header are great.
Sometimes a skyscraper to the left, but still above the fold is ok, although I prefer to stay center, and usually place #3 UNDER my content, so to make sure those that get through it see something to click on.
Really, thats what its all about, stratigically placing things for people to click on, because thats what we do when we browse, we look for the next best answer, somewhere to click.
I hope this helps answer your question without a bunch of outbound links.

I did not intend to open a can of worms or anything here, just asking questions... ;-)
