When should I start looking for advertisers

And where?

I have a (content) site that is now getting roughly 20-40 hits a day. Since I made the site w/ Wordpress (and got his .com though a b/o service) I've had Adsense on the site. Well, there are two issues:

1) Low return w/ Adsense - so low now it's not even going to pay for the reg fees (7 domains - hisname.com/.org/.net/.info and nickname.net/.org/.info).
2) Some of the ads through AdSense can be, let's say, unethical in the client's (and my) eyes. I actually have a disclaimer above the ads that they're not affiliated with us - they're supplied by Google (CYOA so it's not seen as an endorsement.

I'm thinking of asking for advertisers. Right now I have a 250X250 box for AdSense and I could easily change the programming (either one 250X250 or two 250X125 banners).

I'm wondering is this enough to get paid advertisers (I don't think I'd get any large advertisers with this but I've been thinking of posting about this on the site). Or - what would be good alternatives to AdSense?

Just a side note - the only pay I take form the client for the site is either commissions though book sales (8% of $50 or $72) and AdSense revenue. I've also been thinking of splitting ad revenue (for paid ads) with the client 50-50 (he got screwed big time by his former webmaster / publisher).

With 20/40 hits a day i doubt you will attract any good advertising options...

If you want some good advertisers you will need to increase that traffic significantly

Have you thought of getting any affiliates on the blog?

What is the blog about?

Find a specific affiliate on the subject you talk about and promote it through the blog...

20-40 hits per day isn't much.

Also, hits and Uniques are totally different thing.
Hits count everything including image files.

Here is one of my site's stats for January as example.
Uniques:1625
Visits:3381
Pages:18306
Hits:42289

Perhaps it's better to get more traffics, maybe 500 - 1,000 uniques/day,
and then think about getting direct advertisers?

With about 20 - 40 hits per day, how many visitors do you think advertisers can get?
I think one or two at very best.

Keep adding good and unique contents and traffics will come.

(8% of $50 or $72) New Math?

You look for advertisers when you have what they want: Traffic.

He sells two books on the site, one is $50 and the other is $72.

The thing is that I wouldn't attract any large advertisers with the site (chances are we wouldn't want any large companies advertising). This niche takes its pride on the small person, not mass-production.

Hmm, I wonder if people would pay for plugs / entries on the site? Most people who would want ot advertise on the site would only want to for a couple of months a year (at different times).

I see! I thought you said 8% of $50 is $72.

If that is the case than I should change my career to be a broker and charge my client 8% flat!!!

Don't quit your day job - I've made a whopping $18 in six months with the sales (including some though Amazon.com).

People still his books used on Amazon for $20-$40 yet his are new and the most current version (some are as old as 1980 and being health related that is very outdated).

I'm wondering if people would pay for articles on his site? They'd pay, he'd write the article. Hmmm....
