Is your content taken seriously? and are you concerned if it is or not?

So I am just wondering if folks here who are producing their own sites and writing their own content are concerned whether or not their content is taken seriously?

I have been working with a partner and we have been writing our own content so we can make sure we have unique content that won't be disregarded by search engines. We make sure we check our facts and we are not just writing crap for the sake of having unique content...

But...

We are not necessarily experts in the fields that we are writing about, and we do not have any profiles or credentials posted on our sites...

Do you think this matters? Is this going to hurt our credibility? Are we wasting our time?
