i think it is ok to use i saw some ads also on some dot org sites and i think thet're ok.
I think it is niche-dependent, not related to the TLD. I have .org websites that get healthy CPC.
It's been a very long time since .org actually meant organisation, most organisations and not for profits will try to get the .com as everybody trusts a com more than an org.
Domain stereotypes for the orgs, nets and coms mean very little anymore.
